Just bought an 06 Uly with 13k miles for $5600. Came with bags, large windshield, heated grips and plastic heat shields... I think I got a good deal. When I was going through then bike I noticed a large dent in the rear section of the muffler. It's about 1/4 deep. Should I replace the muffler? They are pretty cheap on ebay... or is it worth pulling the dent out?

Only if the cosmetics of it are really bothering you.

It won't bother the bike any. Ride, and try to match it on the other side.

Hell have you seen Carlos' (M2nc) muffler?

It's a bash plate. Unless you are bothered by the looks, don't bother.

(in my best Crocodile Dundee voice)

.... ***that's*** not a dent. ***This*** is a dent!

; )

Put me in the "put a matching dent on the other side" camp...

Ride the motorcycle and do all in your power to keep that side from being visible.

Battle damage. Show it off to your BMW friends and try not to let the Harley guys see it.

Mufflers don't like trees! But, thanks to Froggy, we have a nice new undented muffler on the Uly.

The old dented one was fine until the muffler strap kept breaking. With where the dent was, the muffler strap wouldn't tighten down enough, so he changed it out to Foggy's muffler.

If it really bothers you this and some high temp flat black paint should be easy.

Hardest part would be taking the pipe off to do it right.

Grind paint, apply stud, "pull" with slide hammer, little at a time, grind pin(s) off and paint.

Great feedback from all... thanks so much! : )... I'll ride it the way it is. I wasnt sure if it would effect performance.

As for rust.. I assume that Buell is no longer making the mufflers out of stainless... is this true?
