I take the 99 myself.
First, the 99 takes you straight here. Second, the 5 is horribly flat, straight, and boring.
When are you coming down?

I just came back from a road trip where I had to go from Milpitas and went through Bakersfield. I went I-5 to Milpitas, so I didn't want to go that route again on the way home, so I tried something new.

I went 101 south to Paso Robles area, turned on 46 and headed east. As you go on 46, highway 41 and 46 meet and merge. About four miles after that, there is what looks to be a pretty awesome road. I was on my BMW RT, and I didn't go down it, but there is a road I would love to try out on my Uly called Bitterwater. According to the map, you can take Bitterwater to Bitterwater Valley, turn left and that will put you back out on 46.

After that, you can go east on 46 again and go to 99, then into Bakersfield.

Unibear, sounds like you live in the area. You been on Bitterwater? From the typographical maps, it looks fun.

There are MANY fantastic roads around Bakersfield. Bitterwater is fun on a Uly.
I prefer the mountain roads to the east best but everywhere but straight up the valley from here you can find some of the best twisties around. Sadly the local Harley shop is non Buell and of the pure butt less chaps and fake tatoo mentality and there are less than 15 Buells at this end of the valley. I have the only 1125 and Uly in town.
The best motorcycle road (twisties & good asphalt) from the coast to Bakersfield (by FAR!) is Hwy 58.
Lol Bosh, that puts you at the court house downtown. I hope that's not the reason anybody has to come here!

Oops! My bad. That's city hall right next to the BPD. The court house (and jail) is just across Chester, all together for your one stop legal needs.

Northeast Ohio here - 36deg. and gloomy, overcast, light snow, raining tonight, more of the same until it gets colder and, and then starts to snow until March friggin' 2009 ... !

Well, to the point then ...I hate you warm-weather, beautiful scenery ain't this a nice part of the world to ride all year 'round guys - really, I mean it, I hate you!

I'm looking out the door into bright sun shine right now Johnboy! Just got back from the veteran's parade where I wore my jacket too long and had to open the vents on the way home to cool off!

But then I bet you have four real seasons with beautiful spring and fall colors to ride in. We get about one week of the the most beautiful wild flowers you could think of (the tease season) and then the rest of the year is just two seasons, the swelter season (nature is burnt golden brown color) and the drizzle/mud/FOG season (nature is mud colored when you can see past your nose).

It'd be nice to have a white Christmas except I know what will happen. About once every ten years in January we get a freak 4-6 inches of snow and the power goes out from all the cager's taking out the utility poles.
