Anyone receive a letter from Buell to do an online survey? I responded with positive feedback. The only real negative comment I had was regarding the instant rust muffler. I had the exhaust ceramic coated and so far,( 1 month), so good. It should come that way from the factory. Sorry no pics.

I got one too. I let them know the truth but not anything rude. I would rather write Eric a personal letter to explain my answers. If I say I don't like the transmission there is no way that they would know what I don't like about it. I never liked the rating system, just let me tell you about it!

If you're sending a personal letter, make sure to address it to Erik, not Eric. Better chance of ending up on the right desk.

I got one a month or 2 ago. Filled it out honestly, then wrote a pretty long comment in the 'comments' section.

Erik Buell, Chairman
Buell Motorcycle Company
2799 Buell Drive
East Troy, WI 53120

I'll give you a couple hints:

  • He reads these.
  • Be specific - give details.
  • Provide a VIN - let him be able to get the details he needs to understand your compliment or concern.
  • If you have a problem describe two possible and realistic solutions.
  • Provide ALL your contact information for you AND your dealer - it's not the least bit unusual for him to pick up the phone between meetings and call owners.

Remember . . . Erik is a fanatic enthusiast, he's cool with hearing both the good and the bad . . . . trust me, not every race bike he built in his career was perfect. Also remember he cut his teeth as a Tests and Analysis Engineer, he lusts for facts and details.

Write on.

By the way, if your letter concerns areas of the company other than design and manufacturing, send it to:

Mr. Jon Flickinger, President
Buell Motorcycle Company
2799 Buell Drive
East Troy, WI 53120

Damn near the same rules. Flick is smart, nice and an avid rider. Shoot straight and share your thoughts.

By the way . . . if all you have to say it "Thank you" go ahead and write the letter or send the card . . . there are days they need one like that.

If ALL you want to do is say "Thank you" . . .send it to:

Ms. April Cash, Elf
Buell Motorcycle Company
2799 Buell Drive
East Troy, WI 53120

She's less likely than the two older guys to misplace it and the word will spread through the factory in minutes.

I can't possibly imagine another post in another forum for another make of motorcycle like this last one.

With all the problems I've had with my Uly in 2.5 years still I won't even think of selling it. I love that bike. I'm proud to own one. And I tell people that who ask about it.

Buells Rule.

I got mine and responded, Told the truth, all I want is a better dirt tire in a 180. Other than that I love this bike.

I did like the questions of how often I wheelied and did stoppies. Good to know your customers.

... all I want is a better dirt tire in a 180.

Try the Avon Distanzia. It's only a 160, doesn't last as many miles but fits right on without too much coaxing and gives a noticeable improvement in confidence in dirt and gravel - the loose stuff, without loosing on pavement cornering.

I did the survey - they stuck a nice Buell sticker in with the letter, which is always good.

I answered similarly to the rest of you guys. There were a LOT of questions about what types of roads you ride on (or lack thereof), and specific examples of those roads (like, Bust Head Road, or VA Route 55 between Haymarket and The Plains), as well as the percentage of time you spend on those types of road. They even ask what size your passenger usually is (I could get hit for that answer...), and how often you ride with them, how often you ride with luggage, etc.

Made me think, I don't get out enough!

Surveys are an excellent tool, and I was happy to fill mine out.

I tried to give useful comments.

The interesting thing about the Uly is that you have such a wide variety of people riding it. Touring riders, 2up, dirt, sport, etc. It's very difficult to make a motorcycle that pleases everyone. I focused most of my comments on how to make the bike a better "real world" sport bike, since that's how I ride it.

I don't remember them asking me about wheelies..... They did ask how many motorcycles I have previously owned and the brands, years, etc.

I answered pretty positive on the survey overall. I did mention I wish there wasn't quite so much heat coming off the rear cylinder, but you know what? I also wouldn't give up this bike. As I told my wife, I'd sell my BMW RT before I sold the Buell.

Did mine today. I think my answers and bike selection will be perplexing.

I think they will wonder if I picked the wrong bike.

I don't.

I did chuckle at the question:

"Do you shift gears without using the clutch?"
