Hi,

I'm going to rotate my motor tomorrow to put some more frame foil insulation on the front inside of the frame.

The last time I did it I removed the pulley and took the belt off. Is this step really required or will it rotate down without removing it? Of course I'll be loosening the "rear isolator bolt" or swingarm bolt, removing all the tie bar links and the front iosolator bolt, etc.

I haven't tried it (or measured it), but I would suspect if you remove the tensioner setup you'd be OK. Should be about the same - but opposite - of a swingarm going down, belt-stretch-wise....but if it were me, I'd make sure the rear wheel is off the ground so it can rotate, allowing tension on top to be replaced with slack from below if needed.

If that makes any sense at all ; )

Hi Ratbuell,

Yeah I understand and that is what I was thinking of too. I will be using a rear swingarm stand so the wheel will be free to rotate. Maybe someone that is online this today will have done it.

Thanks

Well, my engine is currently rotated down for spark plug thread repair (pics soon), so I can give you an answer you can trust.

You do NOT need to remove the belt. Remove the idler pulley, and that's enough. As the engine rotates down the belt slackens markedly.

Excellent!
