I installed rox risers 2" and cant figure were the throttle cable should go. The cables go right into the wire housing, were do I go from there?

Any pics?

I installed the 2" Rox risers and didn't have to change anything with the throttle cables, just had to remove the clamp with the rubber bushing for the front brake line and straighten the line some. I didn't take anything off the bars to install the risers.

Travis, the throttle cables should be rerouted behind the right side triple tree in order to prevent binding when the bars are at full lock.

Dio, are you sure your throttle isn't binding? Have you tried turning your bars full left and full right and operating the throttle in both positions? The biding is most evident at full lock.

I have an '08 which has greater lock than the XT and the '06-'07 X but I don't know of anyone who hasn't had to reroute the cables with Rox risers to prevent binding.

I tried full lock right and the throttle was sticking because they cable became too tight. I will try again today. I dont see how the cables can go between the tree and the light and wire housing. The one cable has the plastic hook piece that make it difficult to squeeze through things.

Not really sure what the "plastic hook piece" is?

There is plenty of room behind the headlight for the throttle cables.

I disconnected the throttle cables from the throttle body. Thought it was easier than disassembling them from the handle bar end...personal preference.

Perhaps if you remove your headlight, things will be a little easier to sort out. There are only three bolts securing the headlight in place.

The hook piece is from the throttle end. I am just not sure if I should be inside the light area, or if I should be behind it. There is a space between the forks and the light housing assembly.

Sorry Travis...I'm still not following. When you say there is a hook on the "throttle end," do you mean the throttle body (engine) or the twist grip? There didn't seem to be too much mystery to it when I did it. I know there is a bracket on the throttle body that keeps the cables spaced properly. I had to remove that bracket to remove the cables from the throttle body, but that was fairly self evident.

To the best of my recollection, I routed the throttle cables exactly as they were routed from the factory with the exception of repositioning them behind the tree.

I took the twist grip apart.

I don't see going behind the tree, this is whats confusing me. The cables come out from the engine into a wire holder and into the light assembly.

The tree is the forks?

Travis, it sounds to me like you haven't disassembled or removed the fly screen components and headlight in the past. The cables cannot go "into the light assembly." The headlight is a very compact, self contained unit. What you're perceiving as "into the light assembly" is in actuality, behind the light assembly.

The trees are simply the upper and lower mounts for the fork tubes. The fork tubes slide into the trees.

My simple suggestion is to remove the six screws securing the fly-screen and then remove the three bolts securing the headlight. In total, that should take about five minutes to accomplish.

Once this is done, you will have a much better perspective of where the cables are currently routed and how they'll need to be repositioned.

The dash, i dont know what that is called but yes Iam behind the light assembly. The throttle cables go right into the dash or behind the lights. No matter were I run the throttle cables they are too short.

I don't know what's different, but I don't have any binding at full lock, left or right, and I didn't reroute the cables. The only difference may be in how far back towards the rider the bars are rotated when they are installed on the new risers. The closer they are, the more slack they need for a full lock righthand turn.

Not much margin there... I got new cables and they gave me R cables instead of S cables. They were about 3/4 of an inch too short, and no matter what you did it just won't work right. You could hook them up, but you mangle them in the process, and they bind.

Mat need custom cables if you raised the bars 2". If this was an R, you could try the S cables, they are longer.

Hi Travis,
I made up some throttle cable guides that allow you to use the stock cables with plenty of clearance. Do a search using my username to see if you can find my past posts on the subject. If it looks like it will work for you, send me a PM. I think I still have a few laying around and can send you one. My bike is an '08 and the forks would pinch the cables before I added this guide. Over 22K miles with no cable issues.
Looks like
I last posted on this here on 12-07-07 for this. If you scroll up the thread a few posts, you can see that member "Gattlinberger" pasted my routing info from another forum on 12-06-07. Hope this helps.

I found the only way to get enough slack is under the dash between the fork and the frame on the right side. Full lock right it hits the cables. The cables arent taught so it seems to be working. Only problem is if I lay the bike down it would pinch the cables were they might damage them.

I did read every post on here about the risers and I did come across your posts that you refer to.

I will pm you.

Thanks
