I was in the Harley store today and ran across this jacket. It seemed like a really beautiful leather jacket (w/ armor and a pull-out insulated liner) and comes in tall, as well.

Does anyone have one of these?

Oh yeah, the sales girl said that she didn't have any Tall's in stock, but could order one for me - I must pay for it (in full) first, and get this, if it doesn't fit, I have to pay a 20% restocking fee (no mistake here, 20%.... that's 120 bucks on a $600 jacket)

I prefer to support our local bricks-and-morter vendors when I can ... but really.

They also have the same jacket in waterrproofed nylon for around $400.

I've had the FXRG nylon for years (four or five). No issues at all. Comfy, great venting in warmer weather, nice and airtight in cold temps - it's my usual cold weather jacket over the heated liner. No pulled seams or stitches, armor is nice and comfy, and it's a good fit (6'4", average to tall torso, looong arms). Also totally waterproof - been caught out more times than I can count in it.

I prefer nylon to leather because it stays more temperature-neutral...but the leather jacket is also very nicely done. Good quality stuff.

Yeah, I think I might get a lot more use out of the nylon version, and I can get it for $322

I have the leather version. It is tolerable up to about 85 but not much more than that. I like the armor and the liner is really warm in the winter. It is not waterproof but quite water resistant in the design of the zippers and treatment of the leather. The only thing I would improve is the thickness of the leather - just a bit too soft for me and can flap (the sleeves) a bit at high speeds. It think this has to do with the leather shell having to have enough room for the liner sleeves.

Like most jackets it seems best to get it a bit tight as it will stretch a bit. I like the number of pockets and will have to try the kidney belt some day. Don't seem to need it on the Uly.

Also, it can sometimes be found at a discount. I bought mine during a Summer sale for a discount.

Nicest thing about it for me was the five year warranty. Lost two zippers coming back from Cali in 07. Sent in coat and 5 business days later received brand new one.

The more I look into Harley gear, the more I'm finding that they really do have some top-notch kit. It's good to know their warranty is top-notch as well. To me, that's worth the extra $.

I have the FXRG nylon jacket and pants. I like them because of their all around use, winter and summer. A friend of mine has the leather jacket which is a very nice leather but it is so expensive! I'll just stick with my nylon gear.

Ive had the nylon for about 3 years, have the matching pants to. love it, no issues extremely warm, a lot better than traditional leather.

Years ago (1980?), my parents bought me the Harley Eng style riding boots I always wanted (at the time they sold two styles, tall and regular). I had those boots nearly 20 years! I haven't looked at their stuff recently mainly because the local BMW dealer has the widest selection of gear in town bar none, but this is one jacket that does look like something I would own (a Harley first in a long time).

The other nice things about the nylon vs. leather are:

Reflective piping on nylon - nighttime visibility

Rubber covers on vent zippers - keep the rain out (along with rubber seals on main zippers that work very well)

Removable liner - I don't even use mine, just wear the heated liner instead (and I ride in 10 degrees with it), but nice to have on "in-between" days.

Great inside pockets - glasses, iPod, phone, you name it. Even have a lens cleaner cloth on a tether inside the left breast pocket!

It really is one piece of clothing that I haven't managed to screw up yet. I'm gifted - I can break or ruin just about anything LOL. This jacket doesn't care if it's stuffed in a saddlebag (used to do that all the time on my FLHP, in iffy weather), hanging in a closet, or draped over a hot bike in a parking lot while I grab a burger.

AND - it isn't COVERED in HD logos or B&S graphics!!! I like my stuff PLAIN, thank you : )

I have the Nylon Jacket and Pants. They're not TOTALLY waterproof. 8hr drive in the rain proves it, Rain pools up in your lap and comes in through the zipper. But this is extreme all day riding in rain.

Today it was a balmy 38deg f / 1 deg celcius and the jacket was perfecto.. Really keeps you warm.

There was a defect on the pants where the color turned/ faded to a brownish color. Also there was zipper probs in the earlier models, they give you a replacment zipper.

The jacket with no liner and pants are WAY too hot for me in the summer. I have Joe rocket phoenix gear for the summer. But Spring and fall I use these.

Also, They're ok for the money, considering what the competition has to offer though, you can get a cheaper set..... Look @ Joe Rocket also www.newenough.com has good deals.

I have a 15 year old leather version. Great quality and fit. Keep it clean and treated. I have proven it works when needed. My first one took a ride on the pavement at 50+mph - I love leather!. The emergency room folks (and I) were impressed at how well it held up. It did not ride up and expose my tender torso to the high speed asphalt grinder.

I agree with Mr. Alchemy that at 85F (and above) it is a warm jacket. I'm looking at an air mesh jacket for those days - something to throw in the washer after sweating all day.

With the snap-in thermal liner and a good sweater, the FXRG jacket works fine when cold (I tested to 35F a few times).

When mine wears out, I'd buy another one.

I wore my nylon FXRG suit a couple of times with steady rain for over two hours each time and it never leaked. I think it's the best all-around riding suit you can buy for the money. I purchased both pieces at my local dealer when he had his 20% off sale going on so it was a fair price.

I agree with Road Kill, the FXRG holds up well to pavement. The only repair needed on mine was the pocket where my wallet was-wore through as it stuck out the furthest. I even had a zipper added so I could zip it to my Cortech leather pants. Great jacket with some armour, zip out liner and kidney belt built in.

I have the leather jacket and pants. Its all I bring on a long trip. The leather may get soggy in all day rain, but I stay dry. On hot days the jacket can be a bit uncomfortable in city traffic. On the open road its not a problem. The over pants are not a problem. I just wear shorts in the summer,(you never feel the right side engine heat).

The front zipper failed on the Fall ride to Tomahawk,WI this year,(all day rain). The nice ladies in apparel at Wausau H-D helped me out with a road side repair. I'll send it in under warranty at the end of the season.

As mentioned above, you can get a better price if you wait for a sale a/o MVP discount.

Lastly, is it wrong for men to discuss clothing at this length? Or..Do I look fat in this camo?

Ejc, I also rode up to the Tomahawk this year in the rain and I didn't get wet with my FXRG suit on. I too stopped in the Wausau Buell dealership and was suprised to see 11 new Buells on the sales floor. They are starting to get serious about the Buell brand because they use to not carry much. The weather sucked that weekend and I missed the Bubba Blackwell stunt show on Saturday afternoon, it was rained out.

Cyclonedon, I too was impressed with Wausau H-D's representation of Buell. It was the first time I saw the 1125CR in person, cool bike. The ride on Rt. 107 between Tomahawk and Merrill was the highlight of the trip for me. Sorry for hijacking.

I use the Tourmaster Transition 2 jacket and love it. Lots of venting to stay cool in summer and its warm for winter. Rode 3 hours in the rain and didn't leak at all. Not bad price either can be found for about $150-160 and most bike stores can get it. Comes in a couple of nice colors also.

I was looking on EBay yesterday and saw some good prices for the FXRG riding gear. Some dealers must want to cut their inventories before winter.
