Criminy. I guess they'll superglue the darned shield to the nacelle, and then run fourteen deck screws through both layers of plastic, and then wrap thirty yards of bailing wire around the whole deal. THAT ought to finally do it.

Why wouldn't the XT come with the recall fix already in place?

I ran into a guy at the local dealer that just had his fly off and hit him in the head. It didn't have the "bolts" just the push buttons.

I have already fixed mine with 2 thin flat washers and 2 lock nuts.

My 08XT's windscreen was definitely set up wrong at delivery as well. It had the two pins with rubber grommets on top. In the bottom placements were the normal two rubber grommets in the flyscreen and two more in the windscreen with imbedded nuts and screws to tighten it. The screen was angled back sharply and VERY loose. After a few rides I removed the two regular grommets out of the flyscreen, put the two with the imbedded nuts in their place.

This worked for a few thousand miles till I shed one of the screws and when I checked the grommets again the nuts were separating from the grommets. To get a replacement screw and the special steel washer I had order a complete lower installation kit(two new grommets, two screws, two beveled steel washers, two fender washers and two nylock nuts). This kit had to be installed with the flyscreen removed, no way to remove shield with flyscreen in place. Probably what this new replacement kit is.......

So far, so good.

The key is to not over-tighten the bolts in the lower mounts. This will rip the threaded insert away from the rubber in the expandable "grommet" (DAMHIK). Install them in the shield until the bolt head just meets the washer, insert the "grommets" into the flyscreen, tighten eight revolutions and no more.

THIS is what Buell used to fix the original Tall screens:

Buell Tall Windshield Recall Fastener Kit

Please ignore the plastic plugs to the right, I used those to plug the stock shield holes when running w/o a shield or with a Laminar Lip in place of the stock shield.

I am assuming they went to the rubber-nutted-whatever-they-are for expediency in assembly. We're seeing they don't work. Good for BMC to get on the stick and correct the problem.

With the Recall Kit there was never any chance of the Tall shield popping out, and I rode with it well over the ton a few times. My problem was with the shield itself and the buffeting it caused (for me at least).

For what it's worth I ride mostly now with the stock shield w/ Laminar Lip w/ stock grommets, no problems 110+ on several occasions.

My replacement kit looked just like that with the addition of two grommets to insert into the flyscreen. It was in the parts list at the dealer. The parts guy did try to find just a screw and washer, but the kit was the only option.

Extra parts is a good thing though...............

SO is there an update/recall for the 08 XT? I tried to order the inserts, waited over 2 weeks, and when I stopped to check on the parts, They were canceled. The dealership I ordered from said "that's funny, usually they notify me when they cancel the order". The part number has not been changed, so I'd like to find out what is going on. Maybe it's time to order the windshield bracket!

If your bike was built between those times, then you should be getting a letter in the mail from Buell about it.

Actually my computer is silver, but it has a freaking fast overclocked CPU, and I just got Verizon Fi0s internet, 20megabit down and upload. I can download the entire godfather collection in DVD quality in about 45 minutes. : )

Oh and my old Uly was black, then carbon fiber. My SS was red, now blue! : )

For the Risers, I got the Strada setup with the easy knobs, they rock : )
