Here are some perspectives from a Moto Guzzi forum about Buells in general. By and large the comments are very positive. I know that no one here cares about other brands owners opinions about Buells but sometimes they can be an interesting read. http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=21182.m sg316707#msg316707

Some day I'll own a Guzzi. I've admired them since I first saw one in 1967. Before I bought the Uly, I wanted a Griso but it didn't fit me and my joints are too old for me to argue with them.

I have a Guzzi and two Buells....love the hell outta all of them. I have attended a few Guzzi events on my Buells and the responses have been positive....Guzzi riders and Buell riders share the love of riding something different

Insightful.

I especially like the comment the Buell is a rolling furnace. To him I ask, and the Guzzi is not?

He is right the fan is OBNOXIOUSLY loud, but does its job.

Perception, it's all perception.

I ride my Uly with a buddy who has a Guzzi Cafe Sport. It's a very cool bike. I almost bought one but ended up with the Buell.

I like Guzzis and I am currently thinking of buying a 4,600 mile 2003 V11 Ballabio as a second bike.

I like twins and I like character and quirkiness too!

Of course I'm keeping my Uly!!!!!!

Guzzis, meh.

If I had to choose between a California and a Road King in a point to point race I'd pick the Road King. Ya know.

What a refreshing thread! I wonder what the responses would have been to the same question on a GS board. I like Guzzi's I borrowed a California in Sardinia last year and enjoyed the ride. I think I can find room in the garage for one.... better go and ask the Mrs first though..

I've not ridden a Guzzi, but I suspect it's engine shakes less than the Buell's. It appears to be a 90 degree V-twin, and those can be balanced pretty easily.

My dad has much admiration for Guzzi's. It has been passed down to me.

I think one of the reasons harley has invested in buell is so when I get older I buy harleys instead of buells. Probably won't work, I will probably get a guzzi cruiser instead ; ).

I think there is a common thread among the Guzzi and Buell owners. We both ride non-conformist v-twin bikes meant more to be enjoy at street legal speed than the conformist Japanese derivatives out today. I like the California myself and when it comes time to add to the stable, it will be on the short list of bikes.

I have owned a bunch of pre 83 Guzzis (SP's T-3s LeMans)
and I'm putting back together a 77 850 LeMans. I think Guzzi and Buells attract the same kind of riders. They like a bike that is basic, easy to work on with real world performance.
I would love to have a Griso.

I've owned 3 Guzzi's:
78 850T3
79 1000SP
96 1100 Sport

All great bikes and very much in the same spirit as a Buell. Now I ride a 08 Uly XT and I really love it too. To see how much overlap there can be visit

http://www.ghezzi-brian.com/models_furia.htm

Check out the front disk and the location of the exhaust below the trans. Ghezzi-Brian are to Guzzi a little like Buell is to H-D.

black 05 ully with 25k on ,some minor probs
starting to show , new belt caused swing arm bearing failure and on second replacement shock (hd to help with new one)
Guzzi 1100 sport 1995 , 80k miles , bit like a grenade until sorted (most things packed up - but uk warranty was good if frustrating) - still use sport but not as much as ully now.
chris uk
guzzi to ride until ully is fixed!

Longdogs post inspired me to post this:

Edit:That'll teach me to read all the posts before getting excited and posting something 'new and ground-breaking'!
Oh well, still interesting I think.End of edit.

Google 'Ghezzi Brian' and learn about this rare motorcycle, I'd never even heard of them 'til I saw the one above in the Isle of Man earlier this year.

If you read one of the Google results that I found, the text/writer seems to claim that Buell wasn't the pioneer of rim disc brakes (inferring that Ghezzi Brians did).

As far as I can tell most ideas in motorcycle design were thought up in the early pioneering days of 'motorised cycles' and modern designers have merely improved on the initial designs.
You could say that rim brakes were invented when bicycles had blocks of rubber rubbing on the wheel rim to slow them down- rim discs are just a logical progression of that.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything to take away from modern motorcycle designers/engineers accomplishments.

(Maybe I should start a separate thread to see who copied who, Buell or Ghezzi Brian- that should see a bit of discussion )
