I have read threads regarding should I buy a Buell (ULY), can I ride 200 miles without a problem, what maintenance do Buells require, etc. I keep pretty good notes on my vehicles and I consider myself to be an "average" Buell owner so I thought this info could be of interest. Background: I am 53 and have ridden all my life (Amer. made V-twins). I have a RK for 2 up trips and a Bourget for bar hopping. So I ride the ULY to work, on Buell club monthly rides, local rides and an occasional trip (mostly 1 up). I flew to WI in May '06 and bought the bike from DaveS. Then I rode it back to Orl hitting the Dragon and other places of interest on the way. I ride the ULY ~6000 miles a year. I perform the routine maintenance but not the tire changes, recalls, and the stator repair.

FARKLE LIST
Lightning front fender
Moved horn (no more rattling)
Headlight rewire (both lights on with Hi beams)
Buell tall windshield (helped a little with buffetting)
Traction grips
Vista Cruise throttle lock (cheap and much needed)
Aprilla mirrors (look but don't work better)
Tank bag
KN filter
Drummer catch can (keep spuge out of engine)
Drummer exhaust (nice piece)
Cut up air cover
Direct link Map (picked up power, driveability plus less heat)
Side bags
Underseat bag
RSS (fan rarely runs when bike moving)
Black chin spoiler center piece
Dip stick temp. gauge (piece of mind)
FB’s voltage monitor LED (piece of mind)
Underseat heat tape (keeps butt cooler)

Maintenance/Repairs
1150 miles oil primary
3750 miles side stand recall, stator, battery
5325 miles oil primary
7730 miles rear tire (616) BAS recall
9750 miles oil primary, tightened loose side stand bolts
15000 miles oil primary Lyndall front pads rear/front tires Stradas

Bike gets ~40 mpg city and ~50 mpg hwy. Stranded me once 2 miles from home when stator went south. I would not hesitate jumping on it any time and heading out to Key West/Myrtle Beach/etc.

Summary: It is an inexpensive bike (relatively speaking), lots of fun, comfortable, low cost of ownership, and doesn't require much cleaning (looks better dirty IMO).

YMMV
Frank

Aprilia mirrors. WOW I had the exact opposite experience. The Aprilia mirrors are crystal clear. I put them on at the same time as the Rox Risers, so that may be a factor.

20K on mine now. Never been to the dealer. Only left me semi-stranded once. The 77 connector arced and took out the VR. The 77 connector is now removed.

Tires are my biggest expense. I now buy them 3 at a time online. (free shipping)

I would not hesitate jumping on the bike and going coast to coast to coast.

FWIW, I bought and fitted Tuono mirrors from ebay and no matter what I did, all I could see was arms and elbows, fur coat and no knockers!!!

Then I bought and fitted Kawasaki KLR anti vibration mounts. They sited the mirrors about 1.5" higher and transformed the rearward view!
