I have 7500+ miles on my '08 XT and I am still on the original rear. Most of the miles have been commuting or on the slab so of course the tires are squared off a fair amount. The Strada has no tread that crosses over or even very far into the center section of the tire. Is their enough meat in the tire to square it off over to the inner set of wear bars? How much further can I go before the cords show through?

Couldn't tell you. I skulled one at 1800 miles.

That is one of the problems I have with the Strada (and it's carcass twin the Metzler). You have no way of knowing if you are going to kill it in the next ten miles or not.

If you are just commuting, I say run it until the cords show. Have the replacements ordered and sitting to install. If you are planning a longer trip, replace it before you go.

No one can tell you how much longer it will last. Mileage differs by rider.

I've never gotten more than 4500 miles out of any tire.

Got a picture?

Tread life will vary from rider to rider, and the riding conditions. Hell with the Scorpion Syncs, I have gotten anywhere from 6k-12k on the rear. Current tire is at about 5k and will be getting swapped early for fresh rubbers so i can do a track day : )

My Z6's (same tire, few more grooves) corded right about the same time I hit the wear indicators, but other than making me nervous knowing they were corded, they did just fine to get me the 150 miles home. Actually come to think about it, I have run a set of the Stradas to the wear bars without cord, but I didn't go into the wear bars much at all. I always have a spare set of tires sitting in the garage regardless though.

Thetable,

That's the info I was looking for. I'll take it the rest of the way down to the wear bars, it's close now, and replace it. Thanks for the replies everyone.

At 6,000 my rear Sync is pretty much finished - I have rear Diablo Strada ready to spoon on, but I just hope it is as good in the rain as the Sync's, which really inspired confidence in all wet conditions.

Cords at the same time as wear bars??? I ran a Michalin Pilot Power last weekend. I picked it up after it was into the wear bars pretty good, and I put over a thousand miles on it. Still no cords showing, but it's damn close.

This is well over a thousand miles AFTER it hit the wear bars:

I have had the Stadas on and have a new one waiting in the garage. They are in my opinion much stickier than the Batlax 020 in all conditions. I will only be buying the Stradas in the future.

Mikef5000, the Z6s and Stradas too IIRC, do not have any wear bars in the middle of the tread. I'm not sure about the Michelins, but I'm guessing they do have wear bars in the middle, like every other tire I have run. With a fair amount of slab, the wear tends to concentrate itself on the middle, away from the wear bars.

Johnboy777, I haven't run the Syncs, but the Stradas do well in the rain from what I remember. I may have lost 10mph in the fast twisties over dry, but they never left me wishing for more traction. In a straight line they would go as fast as I was willing to get pelted by the rain.

The Stradas seem great in rain to me. I don't push it too hard when it's raining but I've never felt so much as a wiggle out of them. And I'd estimate that about 2000 of the 7500 miles I have on them were riding in rain.

I learned how the Strada's act in the rain well this past spring at MB. I was VERY impressed. Never once did they show any less than perfect traction.

That includes hundreds of miles of pouring rain on the freeway cruising 70-80 MPH, and then another couple hundred of miles in the mountains on the twisties.

I have used the Stradas on my old X1 & my Uly.They are hard to tell when they wear out because of the lack of tread in the middle. The wearbars show & I change them. They seem very thin by the time I'm at the Wearbars.I would not run these tires till the cords show........then again I push the envelope sometimes & do not need a blow out leaned over in a fast corner.I still will use the tires in the future because the last longer than any other tire for me,stick in the rain & turn in good.I get about 4500 miles out of a back tire & 10000 miles out of a front.I put a Conti force max on when my rear wore out in the middle of a 3 week trip & only got 1700 miles out of it.It was crazy sticky , but I can't justify 9 days of tire life.
Most people get more mileage than me,but I am hard on tires.
The Diablo is the best tire for wear, traction,& rain that any I have tried.

I got about 6500 out of mine. But they certainly don't wear as well as the Avon Storms I have on my RT. But they also don't have the stickiness the Syncs have.

Well my Strada's have been spectacular in the rain. Last week went on 3 rides all ended up getting wet. Nervousness went away quickly. Great tires

I love my Strada's, but have noticed they are very sensitive to air pressure. My front and rear tire will hunt and grab irregular road surfaces if they are as little as 2psi under inflated. This may be due to always riding 2up and the extra weight is having an effect.
