17K miles on my '07 now and trips from Moab, UT to Medicine Bow Mtns, WY, east to Ulysses, KS (but for the photo opp of course) and south to Toas, NM. Heat, sure it is there, but I don't hug the airbox with my legs most times. A little weather stripping in the gap, right side airscoop - not a problem for me.

Heat is a HUGE and inexcusable issue. I pretty much solved it with Odie's blankets and a RSS. Fuel injection issues should be BETTER on the new models, but don't hold your breath. I've owned 4 XBs and all had some 'stumbling/missing' issues.

IMO, if you're a frame hugger and you ride in hot weather, you'll want to plug the gap. Weather stripping, compressible auto door gasket, or a piece of scrap rubber like I used and you'll be glad you did.

I agree with Bartimus,I too, live in Phoenix and ride all summer but on my 08 Uly it's darn uncomfortable. I had the exhausts Jet Hot coated in silver at considerable cost and I installed Odies 2 piece heat blanket but it is still hotter than heck. The frame is so hot I can't touch it. Luckily the outside temps are down now so it's not quite as bad but I still feel that this bike should never have been sold until the heat problem was properly fixed by Buell.

I rarely even notice the heat on my '06, and it gets pretty hot hear in Sacramento.

Ok. I've been lurking long enough and will now input my opinion on this matter. First, I bought my Uly in July and I live in Kansas where it is hot but not like Arizona. One of the first things I noticed in 90 degree weather was the heat. Perhaps some of you are heat resistant and I'm happy for you. There are others, like myself, who are not heat resistant and much more acutely aware of excess heat. I did the usual mod with Odie's blankets with little improvement except maybe less heat on my a**. The only other thing I've done is to buy the 06 tall seat which helps my thigh by elevating it and moving it away from the frame an inch or two. Some of you say that the ST1300 is hot and others say that the Beemer's are hot too. Maybe so but that doesn't mean that a Uly has to be hot. Does it? I love my Uly but have to agree with Kpfetz that not fixing this issue is inexcusable and to not be fixed after 4 model years is even worse than inexcusable. No one should have to spend more $ to rectify a design deficiency that should have been fixed long ago.

FWIW-

I don't think some people are more heat tolerant...each bike rolls out of the factory with sensors that have different tolerances. These minor differences add up on some bikes.

My bike has always been a cool runner with the stock fuel maps. After doing some tuning the heat was unbearable. In my situation adding some timing advance helped.

The stumble... now that one I think is caused by the damn AFV making too large and too rapid of changes.

Then I would have missed 17,000 glorious exhilarating miles waiting for the 1125X, which, at last check, is still not released. I feel for you living in Arizona but non-arid non-desert climate riders I know are not of the same opinion as you.

Ever see someone drink black coffee fresh from a pot that would make McDonald's lawyers nervous ?
I can't do it, but some people can, so I have to disagree.

My '07 wasn't too bad when new, but as I accumulated more miles (~20K), my fuel mileage increased, and my heat level went up (slowly getting leaner). After getting some fuel mapping adjustments, it's cooler, but back down to the high 30's for mileage.

I find that I naturally want to hug the tank with my legs -- it's a
hard habit to break when I don't have to do that on my other bikes!

But guess what gets ridden the most ?

That was my point... many folks don't realize that there is a cure. If you love the bike except for the heat, it just might be worth putting some time into ECMspy. It would be a great project for the Buell community in general.

Again, my guess is that the EPA requirements combined with sensors that have +/- 20% error are the culprit. Since we have no control over the EPA or quality control at Buell, why not put our heads together and find a cure?

That's great but it doesn't work with 08/09's.

One thing I hated about my 2006 Street Glide was the intense heat on the right....my'06 Uly is hot but much more tolerable then the Big Twin which HD had made to run very lean to pass EPA guidelines.

I recently lined the fuel rail on both sides with Thermotec, had the headers Jet Hot coated, installed the Odie Blankets and created a duct with thermotec to re-direct the fan exhaust out and back so it was not shooting straight up under the shock and the seat. With all that done there is still a sense of right side heat but much reduced, at least in my mind as I did not do any before and after temp testing of the frame rail.

One thing for sure, the Jet Hot Sterling coating is absolutely wonderful and does a great job reducing the header temp.

I guess I am spoiled by my 2000 FXDX, but I don't notice ANY heat from it. I live in central Florida where it is great that we can ride all year, but we do have to deal with riding in HOT and HUMID weather.

The funny thing for me is that I have test ridden two XTs. One last year at Biketoberfest and one this year at Biketoberfest. Last year I absolutely loved the bike. I did notice some heat on my right leg, but not enough to make me not want to buy one. This year I couldn't wait for the test ride to get over so I could get off the bike. The funny thing is I also test rode three other Buells. A Lightening, a Firebolt and an 1125r. None of them were nearly as hot as the XT. I noticed a bit of heat on the Firebolt, about like what I experienced on the XT last year. Very little heat on the Lightening. And practically no heat on the 1125r, which I had heard was a real cooker.

So, I don't think that it is necessarily me being more heat sensitive than others. I think the XT I rode was just terribly hot. Hot enough that if I bought one like it I think I would be VERY unhappy. Of course I would try all the fixes that have been mentioned here and any others I could find. Hopefully something would work. Honestly, I'd rather just buy a bike I can enjoy riding the day I leave the dealership. To me mods should make something good even better, not make something intolerable tolerable, and that XT I rode this year was on the intolerable side. The one I rode last year was very tolerable. So maybe there is a bike to bike variation.

Hey firstbatch
I did the frame wrap the header pipe wrap side heat deflectors heat blankets and it did help,ut the biggest change seems to be with 2 cents worth of aluminum foil to redirect the fan exhaust down and out instead of up to your arse

Luf, I agree........ don't understand why Buell does not design and build a duct arrangement for the fan exhaust. Some had speculated that the duct arrangement I installed would restrict air flow but there that has not been the case in this experiment.

Engine heat! YES YES YES!!!

is there anyway we can get some more engine heat on both legs? It's in the low 40's here today and I sure would like some more engine heat to help warm my legs!
