OK that wouldn't exceed the minimum diameter but it would require twisting. That is a no no as well.

The belt almost falls into the "trifold" itself. Whatever twisting is involved is so minimal I'm sure there is no damage. I respectfully suggest that this is a safe and compact method to carry a spare belt.

How many Uly riders here have reach 30k miles w/o some kind of disabling failure? It certainly seems from my observations that most who have reached 30k miles have either had a belt, wheel bearing, or electrical failure that has left the bike disabled.

Oh yeah, count me in this group also! The '06 Uly is the BEST, most TROUBLEFREE, most FUN bike I have ever owned in over 50 years of riding. So there!

Others may have not had as good an experience; I simply offer my own appraisal...

So I made it back, 850 miles later. Now, need help from the collective! Rode great on the hwy, very strong. I feel destined to get a speeding ticket with this bike as it likes to cruise at 90 without a struggle! I love the ergos, better than my Strom and handles wind great! (Why I sold my Strom.) Anyways, whenever I take off, the bike struggles, HARD. More gas surely doesn't help. It just seems to need time to get up to speed then all of a sudden, bam, it goes as it seems it normally should. I found out that in this stuttering, subdued power state, you can still get going, change gears and all but still something is not running right. All most like you have to hit the rev limiter to get it out of this funky state. This condition also happens when bombing along the freeway when you let the rpms go below 3500 then you lose serious power. Fixed by down shifting multiple gears to get the RPMs back up then hope at some point it gets out of its funk and back to normal. No modifications have been done but I'm ordering ECMspy cable and 07 airbox pronto.

Also, first 4 tankfuls the bike was out of gas at 130 miles. Not light on, but OUT. Then on the 4th I went 170 miles. No external conditions changed but the last tankful was 91 octane and all the others 92. ??????

As I recall, you're the person who was posting about how problematic Ulys are when you hadn't had any problems with yours. You seem to me to be someone who wants his bike to fail to prove what a piece of junk it is.

I prefer, on a long trip, to have a belt that had been "mishandled" as opposed to no belt.

If I had to replace it . . never had . . .I'd just swap out for new when I got home.

My bike feels like I'm trying to take off in 4th gear. 0-60 in 25-35 seconds.

Armymedic, take it in to a dealer and let them fix it. They will put it on the digital tech and and find out more in 3 minutes than you can after days of messing around with it.

OK Crusty I should go update my profile Fair enough. That notwithstanding, this electigilde dude has flat out accused me of not owning a Uly when in fact I do own one. I have told him so several times yet he continues to assert that I do not own a Uly.

I traded my Bandit this summer for an SV none of which has anything to do with the topic of this thread.

Back to the subject of Uly's and not me...I have had some problems with my less then one year old Uly but admittedly no major ones so far.

Crusty you have had a good experience with your bike. That is great and of course relevant to the discussion. Notice the absence of other Uly riders who have broke 30k miles w/o a disabling failure. I'm sure that there are others but they seem to be in the minority.

'06 Uly here. Gas, oil, and lots of tires. It's flogged all the time and it refuses to break. I don't know how many miles are on it, exactly, but it's north of 30K.

Bases on the confusion and illogical progression of this conversation I'm not certain the word "sure" belongs anywhere near the thread.

MOST Ulysses provide dandy trouble free service. They, like the 2008 Porsche 911 and the Mercedes Benz CLK, exhibit quirks. None of the Ulysses quirks have risen beyond nuisance level and Buell has addressed all of them promptly in a fashion that stands out in the industry.

That sounds like a good idea. It is under warranty thru 2014. Does anyone know if this poor running condition would be covered under warranty?

I just returned from a 925 mile trip door to door.

No major mechanical failures.

I have only had one sorta stranding moment.

I have NEVER been left on the side of the road unable to get home.

Uh, M singer; Dr Greg has over 50 K on his Uly and Bienhoabob is another high mileage rider. I don't know his mileage, but he regularly rides Iron Butt events.
The original question was would an '06 Uly be trustworthy for a 200 mile ride. My answer still stands as a definite YES.
Hell, I don't even bother to throw my tire plug kit in the bags for such a short trip.
Oh, BTW; my '08 XT has over 11,500 miles on it now. You need to ride more and worry less.

200 mile ride? why not ride a full day? 200 miles is not even a good start for a day's riding!

I have a 2006 Uly and it has over 23,000 trouble-free miles on it and I would ride it to either coast tomorrow if I had the time-off and the money for the gas. It's a completely reliable motorcycle.

Oh my 06 Buell is an unreliable piece of shit. Rode 1000 miles down to Buelltoberfest, and the headlight blew! Now today on my way home the left turn signal is starting to fall off from my camera i got mounted on it! Grr i need to get rid of this thing, before a real problem happens, like needing gas every 200 miles....

Crusy, Dr Greg has over 50 K on his Uly but he has had his share of problems with some that disabled the bike. Broken belt for one.

Froggy has also had some electrical problems with he lighting that disabled his lightning.

I bought my Uly on the last week of last February and it has about 7k miles on it now. Not bad for a guy who averages about 55 hours of work a week.

Your probably right. I should worry less.

A structural failure that is possibly a direct result of how I used and abused the bike.
I don’t know what caused it, but it is the only time I have ever been unable to ride home on any bike. Hell honestly I am not even sure if that’s what even caused my wreck. Part of me still thinks something else went wrong, possibly rear ended, and that’s what started the chain of unfortunate events resulting in my face plant.

As for my Lightning, I had a potential issue that *could* of left me stranded. Caught it early and had the dealer correct it and replace everything under warranty. Hell I cleaned the 77 connector and the bike was running better than when I bought it, didn’t even need the stator/vr replaced, but had the dealer swap them just in case. : )

23k miles on my 06 ... ZERO mechanical failures. Not even a close call. I still have my original fan and belt. I replaced my wheel bearings, but only because I had the wheels powder coated.

Once, my turn signals stopped flashing, and I once had a loose wire that caused the turn signal indicator on the dash to stop working at full lock. The closest thing I've had to a mechanical problem was some pinging. I fixed that by retarding the timing a bit, and I'm glad I did now since the bike runs great on 87, and there's no premium fuel to be found around Atlanta. : )

Not Court... but if your bike isn't running right, it will be covered under warranty. Bring it in. They will take care of you.
What you are describing is VERY abnormal.

20k on mine and half a dozen 800+ trips on it. The only time I was left stranded is when I took the bike in for fork oil service and the dealer discovered a rocker cover oil leak. The insisted that they fix it under warranty. They say the fan gets covered with oil and fails. I had to find two friends to get me home via a train and then back the next day to pick it up. I commute 90 miles every day on the bike. I still live in anxiety that the bearings and belt will blow because of all the bad press. 48MPG and a bad ass commuter eradicator!

06 Uly here one of the earliest ones and 1'st in CA that I know of. I've only had a VR failure due to the "77" connector early on. I eliminated the POS connector and the VR was replaced under warranty. I now have over 31K on the bike and zero problems since the VR failure. I've been to Sturgis, St Vibes, and various other long rides with no problems. I guess I better get rid of it now while it's running good...

You guys need to lighten up and ride instead of looking for reasons to bitch and moan.
