Hi! I am looking at the option of adding a vario windscreen spoiler to my Uly. Has anyone on this site tried that? I have seen done on Advrider.com, but wanted to check in here. I bought a Zero Gravity +3.5 windscreen and it really did not help me too much. It is a little better than stock, but at 60+ mph the wind is directed directly at my face. However if I put a hand up into of the screen to eliminate the laminar air flow current, then it smooth as heck. It feels like a whole different experience when I put my hand up there. I was thinking that adding a vario wing to the top of the ZG might do the trick to move this air out of my face. Has anyone here done this mod, and if so, which screen would be the right one for me. I have posted a link below that has some different options. Thanks! http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2 710/339/ |

I have a stock Uly screen with a Laminar Lip available for $75 plus shipping. I went to the Madstad setup. |

Thanks for the replies. I have seen the lip, but I just don't like the look so much. I know that function should outweigh from in this instance, but I just cant do it. Compare to the Laminar Lip, how well does the Madstad/Palmer set up work? I had considered that approach as well. |

Zuhl - Nice idea, but I wonder if the stock plastic pins would take the pressure of the additional 'sail' area of the vario. Don't have any personal experience with Madstad - but looks like an excellent set up. I do have the Palmer brackets that I alternate with a ZG+4 and a 16" Parabellum. Both work great - prefer the looks of the ZG but the xtra 4" width on the Parabellum is nice for the long haul in colder conditions. Madstad requires changing to black alum fly screen - I didn't want to do that. j |

I know that the stock pins will NOT take the ZG plus a Laminar Lip. I added the Buell Tall screen recall kit and all it did was crush the rubber bushing between the shield and the flyscreen. I have to replace them. The sad part is, the ZG screen plus the Laminar Lip was SO FRIGGAN NICE. I'm working on way to have both on for long rides. |

I suspected it would be a nice addition but also that it would stress the pins. Could the windscreen simply be mounted to the flyscreen with some bolts and rubber washers for padding? Maybe some fender washers to distribute the load on the back side of the fly screen. |

Standard screen plus Laminar Lip, ($120 in UK!!!!), is the best solution for me!!! IMHO it looks much better than the Palmer Brackets that I tried before it and, for me at least, the Laminar Lip works better, (I'm 6'2" with 33" inseam). I should add that the Palmer Brackets worked fine, I just couldn't take the aesthetics any more! |
