anyone tried aftermarket seats on there xb12x. If so did it make a big difference as far as comfort and seating position. | ||

Short of a custom made seat, the only real aftermarket seat is Corbin. Their saddles are horrible and can't get wet, and their customer service is worse. | ||

While I would tend to agree on their CS, they have taken care of me (eventually, as in three months later eventually!) As to the saddles can't get wet, I haven't had any problems with that, and I like the Corbin as far as comfort goes, but they definitely aren't what the used to be from a fit, finish, and CS standpoint. | ||

Remember there are 3 different factory seats available: 06 "standard" (tall), 06 low (gel insert), and 07/08/09 standard (approximately same height as low, but different contours). You may find that you like one of the 06 seats much better than what you have. There are also quite a few outfits that will rework the stock seat for you (Sargent, Meyer, etc.) depending on how much you want to spend. | ||

I just picked up the "low" Ulysses seat for my XT. It definitely sits me lower in the saddle but does not get me any lower to the ground with my feet. Which is what I was hoping for. Still on the fence if I'm going to keep it or not. | ||

I have a mayer seat and it is great, I had the corbin on my last buell XB12S and it was just OK not great. | ||

XB12lp--Is that a Rick or Bill Mayer seat? Do you have any pic's you could share? Bumm is keepin me from the long distance days on the Uly...so far can't do much more than 1,200 per day.  Looking for a seat that will make me willing to do it again the next day. Seriously considering/looking at the day long, or rick, or bill mayer seats. I have not seen many people riding them on the Buell. It needs to be a GREAT seat. | ||

I had a Rick Mayer seat on my last bike. It was a fantastic seat. That bike was a Honda PC800 which had a terrible seat for me. One hour in that seat and I was done. 10+ hours on the Rick Mayer, no problem. My '08 Uly's stock seat is great, again I mean for me. I tried an '06 tall seat on mine and, for me, it sucked. It felt good commuting 15 miles back and forth to work, but then I took it on a one week vacation. I had 2500 miles to discover just how much it sucked, and it sucked for most of them. I had that seat off when I got home from that trip before the bike even had time to cool down. The stock seat was great but I thought that maybe the much praised '06 tall would be better. I have been using the 06 stock seat...it isn't great or even good for me. Have tried the AlaskaLeather seat pad but where the clips are sewn on hits me wrong. Like the pad but hate the clip mounting system. Day two mr happy isn't smiling. 06 short seat is OK when I'm stopped but bends my knees to much when on a long ride. Wish I could figure out a mounting system for some HWY pegs. | ||

I tried all the factory seats on my '08 Uly and drove by the Hollister Corbin factory for look. Their Gunfighter seat is not too much different from the factory low seat. The Service Tech brought out an uncovered base pan with foam and threw a loose piece of leather on it and sent me out for a ride. He added and cut foam several times to suit me. Then covered it with my choice of materials, and gave me a coupon for a free lunch at their diner while I waited. The seat is perfect and looks/fits excellent!! 12k miles so far. I'm happy mike | ||

Wish I could figure out a mounting system for some HWY pegs. You could run flat iron that mounts under the airbox plate and comes out from under the airbox. You could mount stirrups from that flat iron. | ||

My Corbin was so slick I could hardly stay in position, hard and wide enough to slightly cut the circulation off in my legs after about an hour..it was the faux carbon fiber one | ||

I'm not so happy with my 08 seat. It leans and rolls you forward into the tank. Rolls up hair, fat , skin, and puts my pocket buddy in an uncomfortable and buzzy tank. A real sheepskin helps, but I think a little trip to the upholstery shop is called for. I think recessing the back of the front seat pad and a gel insert would do the trick. | ||

Like Conchop, I find the seat on my XT wants to push me forward. I'm thinking that reducing the preload in the rear to drop it a little would flatten the seat angle. Strangely, I only notice the slope of the seat pad when I'm wearing loose pants. In tight pants it doesn't bother me. Another reason for tight leather britches, I suppose, besides safety and pleasing the ladies. | ||

Dust_buster, be careful when buying Saddlemen seats or gel pads. I did both with my Sportster and wasn't happy with either. Their customer service was very good but the $400 seat was not comfortable at all and I still have it in the box. I also bought their Saddle Gel Pad to sit on and that wasn't good either. Gel is REALLY hot if the seat is left in the sun for even a little while. Other folks here may have had a better experience with gel but I wouldn't buy it again. Mustang seats are a favorite of Sportster riders and they don't use gel at all. My understanding is that high quality foam is better than gel for m/c seats. One might be better off dealing with someone who specializes in modifying seats with foam and not gel. YMMV | ||

I have a corbin I bought used here and I really like it. It's a huge improvement over the 07 stock seat. I don't get pushed forward into the tank and it has a nice wide firm feel to it. I like the leather too, it adds to the character and is not much trouble to treat it a couple times a year with leather conditioner when washing the bike anyway. It seems to vary from person to person but I personally think the corbin was money well spent. | ||
