I just got my 5k service done. I decided to go back to the dealer I bought the bike from to keep the 2 year warranty sweet.

It cost me £235!!!!! That's 3 hours labour @ £80 per hour and £35 for oil, filter, O rings, gasket and "sundries". That is one expensive oil change!!!!!!!

I have since heard prices quoted for the 10k service of between £545 and £985!!!!!

Now where do I get a manual from??????

FYI.......... £1.00 = $1.86

Prices like that are the norm. The manual is about $50US, and is available from the dealer of your choice. : )

I've been quoted £270 / £290 from my 2 'local' dealers.
Seems a lot for an oil change!

You're paying a lot of money for the tech to sit on his ass waiting for the oil to drain!! There is nothing in the 5K service that your average joe schmo can't do with a couple wrenches, a service manual, and an hour or so...... You can do that work yourself, just keep the receipts for your records.

Sorry, I made a mistake with the pricing, it was actually £269.94 FFS!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I agree that servicing your Uly is pretty simple, I just thought I would go to the stealer to maintain the warranty.

I'm not sure about the way the warranty works in the USA, but in UK, you have to get it done and the book stamped by a bona fide garage workshop, (not necessarily a HD/Buell dealership), and genuine branded parts must be used or the warranty is invalid.

Ouch that sucks Longdog. In the states there is a law; basically it states that they cannot force you to use a dealer for maintenance to maintain a warranty, unless maintenance service is included at no charge. It also states that you do not have to use OEM stuff, and they cannot invalidate your warranty unless they can prove that the aftermarket part / improper service caused the issue.

I just thought I would go to the stealer to maintain the warranty.

That isn't necessary, at least in the US.

Sorry to disappoint you, we have VAT @ 17.5% on everything.

We also get taxed on our income @ 20% from £0 up to £34,800 then @ 40% above £34,800 and lots of us also have to do self-assesment, (annual filings).

If we buy a car or motorcycle, we have to pay the basic price + purchase tax + VAT. Then we pay Annual Road Tax, (this varies depending on your cars co2 emissions and your motorcycles engine size, the bigger the engine, the more expensive).

When we die, our families will pay death duty and inheritance tax

Our government shafts us twice on each litre of fuel we buy, e.g.
If a litre of unleaded petrol costs 85p, (unleaded is now around £1.15 per litre, more than $8.50 per gallon!!!), 21.7p will be the production costs and profit, around 51p will be duty and 12.5p will be VAT on top of all that.

The land of milk and honey this ain't!!!!!
