Yesterday I ordered a Pilot Road 2 rear tire from Donelsen Cycles Inc and it's being delivered to my door by UPS for $179 and change. I've used them many times in the past and have no complaints. It should be here by Thursday this week. |

http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/ or http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc About the same prices when you add AMT shipping. Depends on where you live is how fast you get them. As for AZ moto just becuase they don't have a phone number isn't a cause for alarm. I have used them for 3 sets of tires. Usually 3 days to getthem cross country and free shipping. now i live in AZ so a hour up the road and I'll have cheap tires in hand. |

Not to sound like a prick here but whats wrong with the local dealers? Yeah in some cases you may pay an extra 10-20 bucks a set (maybe more) but at least you are supporting a local business (even if it is a name like Harley or even if you have to go to an import dealer). Supporting a local business also means that they support you in turn. Between my wife and I we go through probably 3 to 4 rears and 1-2 fronts each year. Which is plenty to look at a .com company to save a few bucks but I still go to my local HD dealership. rant over. |

Yeah in some cases you may pay an extra 10-20 bucks a set A few weeks ago, I had to buy tires in Moncton in the middle of a road trip. I had no choice. I needed tires. I paid more that $550 for a set of Distanzia's. That, in my opinion, is outrageous. If I lived in Moncton, I wouldn't be "supporting" my local dealer with gouging like that. That does sound extreme, maybe though they had to increase their price substantially due to the lack of "local support". I am not saying every dealership is great or honest but I feel that we should at least give them a chance. Between Appleton HD and Team Winnebagoland they get all of my business unless its something I simply cannot get through them (which there are of course those instances). |

If the local dealer can match the internet price then I'd buy from them. Every dollar I save is a dollar to be used elsewhere for food, gas, bills, ect. Every dollar the dealer makes over what I'd pay elsewhere is just a dollar in the dealer's pocket that should still be in mine. Do you pay a local stock broker 60 bucks per trade when you can use a discount broker like TDAmeritrade at $10 per trade? Fortunately, TDAm is local. Buy local, only when the price is right. |

What ever happened to the dealer having to work to earn our business? Time was when a business had something to offer that was of value, they earned your business and loyalty. Just because they're local doesn't automatically mean we owe them "local support". "Local support" is earned, not an entitlement. eor |

I went to this local guy a couple of times with tires I'd bought elsewhere and would have to listen to him complain that I didn't buy the tire from him but he'd change the tire anyway. Naturally he couldn't or wouldn't come close to the price I'd paid for the tire. Naturally I got sick of his moaning so he doesn't change my tire anymore. A guy I know does it for 20 bucks and never leaves a scratch and balances to perfection and let's me watch. He owns a No-Mar and expensive balancing stand. A dealer never lets you watch them do anything and then just hands you back the changed wheel. How do you know that it was balanced correctly? That's the thing with dealer servicing, you just never know what they "actually" did or if they did anything at all. The one thing you will be sure of when you leave and that is how much you paid. |

There are 3 factors that determine who gets my business, in no particular order: The total cost of product; to my door. (is not always the lowest.) Delivery time. (not necessarily the fastest) The likely hood of return of product. (return shipping cost and restocking charge always considered.) |

Donelson Cycles INC 1-800-325-4144 Kansas City, Missouri http://www.donelsoncycles.com/shop/productdetail.h tm?productId=6043637&browse=1451930&shopBy=6779&ca talogId=1159&siteFolder=#313799 The website shows a price of $221.92 for the 180/55ZR-17 so I called them thinking that they had screwed up the order. Turns out I got one of the last two rears they had on hand of that size at the $179 price. I asked if the other one was gone and the gal said it was gone. Sorry. Apparently the word is out on that particular tire and the word is good. At least I wasn't a day late and dollar short on my order as I usually am. They do have Dunlop Roadsmart tires that are purportedly dual compound and they are priced at $157.86 delivered for the 180 rear.http://www.donelsoncycles.com/shop/productdetail.h tm?productId=6029669&browse=1451928&shopBy=6779&ca talogId=1159&siteFolder=#312885 One time they sent the wrong diameter of tire and they immediately sent me the correct tire and had UPS pickup the incorrect tire at the same time they delivered the correct one. They knew they had goofed and made it right completely at their expense and I was only inconvenienced a few days because of it. |

Southwest Moto Tires. Order 2 and they pay shipping. $148 for Avon AV56 and $112 for AV55. Ordered on Sunday night, had them in the garage Tuesday afternoon. I've had great results with the tires and the vendor. Excellent service at a very reasonable price. |

Regarding use of local. I used the local for years, policy was if you purchased tire from them and brought in wheel they would mount and balance for free. Now $38 to mount tires when you bring in wheel, no matter if you purchased tire from them or brought in your own tire. I need my money and need to save everywhere that I can so I am just looking for the best deal for me, as the dealer is looking for the best deal for them, that is the strength of the capitalist method of commerce. |

My local H-D/Buell dealer wants $75.00/wheel to mount & balance tires on top of charging full price for the tires themselves. With three Buells in the family being ridden regularly, that can get expensive. I bought a NoMar tire changer and balancer. I figure that it will pay for itself within two years. I also know that the job will be done right. As a plus, I can offer free tire changes to anyone with a Buell who wants to save some cash. |

I buy lots of tires for track days. For Pirelli tires, I buy through NESBA and for Michelin I buy through Sport Bike Track time. I usually burn the edges of the tires on the track, then spoon then on my Ulysses rims to be finished off. So, in essence, I'm getting "free" tires for my Ulysses. |
