The stock horn is really better than I'd expected but I went ahead and bought a Strebel that arrived last week. It's "fairly" compact but fairly heavy. Has anyone stuffed one behind the fairing? I'm seeing that real estate as fairly valuable. I've already mounted an EZ-Pass inside and am thinking some ballasts (either 2 or 4) may want to live there. I'm considering options. Ballasts could be relocated. No real reason a horn has to be located behind the fairing. . . | ||

Hey Court - honored to provide some input... Yow...you put your EZPass behind the flyscreen? Great idea for a frequent commuter/traveler. Some folks have advised attaching it to the underside of the topcase, but I only take my topcase when I'm going on LONG trips. I only use the EZPass on my bike once or twice a week, so I use a suction cup mount on my windscreen. I'll probably switch to the plastic "velcro" that they provide with the transponder because the suction cups do get tired of holding on after a week or so, and I hate trying to stick it back on when doing 60mph and racing toward the toll booth. That said, I was able to fit my Stebel inside the flyscreen, to the right side of the bike, with the horn openings down and facing forward (so they can't fill with water and so the noise points forward). I zipped it in with 3 long zip-ties until it was snug. I do admit that there was very little room left for any other toys to fit under there (all I really need are additional lighting connections). I do know that others have separated the Stebel air compressor from the horn, using the air tube to connect them, and mounted them separately to save room. Either way, that horn is a LIFE SAVER. + 1 on the Stebel as your horn of choice. I just finished fitting mine yesterday (Behind the fly screen) and made the grave error of testing it in the garage WOW! My ears are still ringing. I would say that IMHO its the most important mod you can do to the ULY closely followed by the Palmer brackets. I looked up all the fitting info and quite a few dudes separate the compressor and mount elsewhere but IMHO it all fits just fine behind the screen. The pre made wire loom you can get for it makes life so easy its not true. | ||

I hate to keep saying this, but the safety impact of having a LOUD horn is SO important to me. I will never do without it...I want one for my car. It actually stops drivers in their tracks + you can see their brains wake up! They wave in apology to me when I blip them, or hunch down in humiliation when I lay it on, physically admitting that they did not look before they shifted lanes. Thankfully, I also happen to be a big dude, so if they want to pull over and throw down, I might be up for that too. Rrrrrrrrr! I did notice that the horn relay had been broken off of the battery mount that I had screwed it to, thanks to the seat pressing down on it, so I taped the relay into a better spot. I also noticed that the wires had chafed a bit while in their last position, so I taped up the questionable spots and relocated them to a better area. Congratulations on the right farkle! | ||

you could put a big megaphone of a horn claxon off the right side of the bike, just like the cop uly does.... It is what I am planning on doing , I might even disguise it behind a right side air scoop. I will put the ballasts under the fly screen to run the TreadMarks death ray upgrade. | ||

Court, does the 09 stock horn still dangle on a little metal arm behind the flyscreen? On the 06 and 07 models, it would vibrate against the back of the flyscreen at certain RPM and make an awful racket. | ||

I will put the ballasts under the fly screen to run the TreadMarks death ray upgrade. I thought Treadmarks Deathray setup uses halogen Soltek Fuego's? Insofar as Courts original question, I have two slim HID ballasts under the flyscreen as well as three relays and the additional wiring for the PIAA 510's. While I did run an extra wire from the Cenetch for a future horn upgrade when I installed the HID's, PIAA's and hotwired the accessory jack, I simply don't see how I could fit a horn under the screen at this point. At least not the Stebel. Tipsy | ||

I separated the horn and put the compressor under the seat and ran a hose to the fly screen on my SS. I ran a wire back to the relay which was also mounted under the seat. | ||

I thought Treadmarks Deathray setup uses halogen Soltek Fuego's? Mine does use the halogen fuegos, but they are also available in HID for a pretty penny. They should be easy enough to convert to hid on the newer bikes. The older (06-07) electrical systems prefer to use the stators power somewhere, rather than shunting it and toasting your 77 connector or other electrical components. | ||

Should be no problem . . . . I've not had any rattles at all. I'm going to try to rearrange in some orderly fashion the stuff behind the fairing and mete out my real estate. I like having the weight (the Strebel is not light) over the front tire.  | ||

Froggy; why not try a Fiamm Freeway Blaster? It's almost as loud as the Stebel Nautilus, but it's straight electric, and I think it would fit in place of the stock horn. Plus, they only cost fifteen bucks from Advance Auto Parts. We're going to put one on Terri's Ss. | ||

My new Uly has the rattlin horn as well... so I'm thinking of swapping. Anybody know what horn that was in the 2000 M2? That was a great little horn... and had a compact and hard snail shell case, which I am assuming means it could be wedged anywhere (unlike the current horn, which has to free resonate). Though that Fiamm sounds like an easy and cheap solution as well... Heck, maybe it's the same horn. | ||

Dick Stilton, "The pre made wire loom you can get for it makes life so easy its not true." This confuses me. Is the wire loom you can get make life easy, or do the people that sell it say it makes life easy but it really does not? Maybe neither, and I misread it. |
