Got my bike back from getting a new stator and VR, but haven't had a chance to give it a load test. So tonight on the way home, it’s getting nice and dark; I kept an eye on my Ft_bstrd volt meter. Already putting down the road, single headlight, Garmin Zumo 550 with XM, Veypor race computer, Motocom DSR-100 video camera, laptop with ECMspy running in my backpack (not hooked into battery).

All green, but it was always green like this with my old stator. Flip on the high beam with both lights on mod, still green. Normally I will be bouncing between yellow and green. Next I put the heated grips on high, again all green. This used to be instant solid red for me. Now for the final test, dual PIAA 55w lights. Hit the switch. Yellow! Wait a second later back to green! I wouldn't have dared try this with the old stator, as I would be flashing red before the switch made it all the way down.

Thank you Danbury HD for the usual good and overall quick service I get from them. Also thank you Ft_bstrd, as without the mod I would have been left stranded eventually. I am buying you a beer in a few weeks!

Now I just got to figure out how to hook up the coffee maker....

Hey Froggy - when your FB monitor started acting goofy, what did it do? On the way to MotoGP Saturday mine when red a few times and yellow a couple as well for very brief moments. Today on the ride to work it bounced around from red to yellow to normal for the first 5 minutes - then all green. I checked the 77 connector after the first indication and it looks just dandy. Not sure if a loose ground or bad battery would be a possible cause but that was going to be my next area of poking around before a trip to the dealer for testing.

Thanks for any input!

With the old stator it would be green most of the time, then with a few goodies turned on it would go yellow or red, flashing red at idle. New stator is green all the time except idle, where it goes soild red.

I noticed it was acting up was that it would be yellow even with the goodies off. It would seem to randomly bounce between all 3 colors. The day i noticed it i was riding hard, well over 5k, and even up there it would stay yellow or red. Even my GPS started to bitch, i guess voltage got so low it couldn't charge and ended up running off its own battery to the point that it said "Low Battery" on the screen.

The random bounce part is what I have - regardless of RPM or accessories on (actually none). So far it has happened twice which makes me think loose ground ...maybe I don't want to face facts! I will spend quality time with the bike this evening have a beer wit it an discuss our feelings and where we think we are in our relationship, go to bed and hope we don't have any issues in the morning.....this approach has worked in other situations

Thanks!

Welllll lunch time spin varified that it goes yellow with PIAA's on at upto about 1500 RPM then green when rev'd above that. Going to the dealer for a check up. Fortunately they can squeeze me in on the 27th.....

Dielectric grease and connector cleaning goes a long way. Give it a try.

Thanks R_C - did that - connector looked perfect which kinda bummed me out, greased 'er up and symptoms remain. Under warranty till April so now would be a good time for it to go!

After I had the issues, I checked the 77 connector like people asked me too and took photos. One of the pins was slightly melted, possibly because I caught it early. After I reassembled everything, my charging issue went away for the most part. I didn't get a chance to test it out but I was getting solid green most of the time after that. I assume it was because of the connector making bad contact, and the playing with it got it to make good contact again. Either way dealer took care of it and replaced everything, just in case if anything was damaged. : )
