Just wondering. I myself am new to H-D/Buell with the Ulysses; came from sportbikes (Ducati 900SS, Aprilia Mille) and dirtbikes (KLX300, KX250).

With 52K miles on Uly I'm still enjoying it very much. Occasionally think about BMW GS (800 or 1200) but then come to my senses...

My 06 Uly (33K miles) was my first Buell/HD. Before that KTM 950 and Triumph Trophy.

Love the bike.. not so much the HD dealers.

The Uly is my first H-D/Buell product. Dirt bikes prior, with a DR350 being the segue to the street. A KX450 takes care of dirt detail now.

'08 Uly is my first H-D/Buell. Prior 22 years on BMW (mostly). This does not mean that the BMW is gone, only ridden less.

The Uly is my first H-D/Buell. Still have the '82 BMW R100RT I got 4 years ago, but it will be going on the market soon. I never ride it anymore.

Prior to that I was sans moto back to about 1993 when I gave away my first motorcycle, an '82 Yamaha Maxim 750. I got that around 1990. It was a cruiser of sorts, but I used it mostly for touring.

Speaking of coming to my senses, I too occasionally wonder about/reserve the right to someday get a GS (and / or a Bonneville, and / or perhaps an XR1200 or something like that, but probably not).

The Uly is my first H-D/Buell. Still have my wife's '82 BMW R100LS (no, not a typo, we did a motor and rear drive swap). Other bikes:
Honda XR650R, dualsported
'97 KDX220, thinking about selling, but I like it in the woods
'03 (?) CRF230, the kid's bike, but he wants a trials bike
'03 XB9S, based on liking Buell, formerly my older kid's, but he wants to get married and my wife really digs it. Needs some work...

Former bikes include quite a few Yamahas, couple Hondas, BMW R80 G/S (highly modified), R1150GS, R100RS, Ducati F1A, any others are from the late Pleistocene.

I like my dealer a lot (Rocky Mtn. H-D/Buell), and am plugging for Buell and Buell knowledge and they are listening intently. Turned a new parts guy on to BadWeb. Letting the service writer know about troubleshooting progress on issues and other known information he might find helpful (former KTM service writer, good guy).

My 2006 Ulysses is my first HD/Buell product. Before that I had about 30 years experience on Japanese and European bikes. Until I test rode a Ulysses, I had nothing but scorn for air cooled v-twins. After the test ride I couldn't get rid of my old bike fast enough.
Needless to say I'm very happy with the bike.

Like Tstone, I had to overcome contempt for HD products. I would have never even test-rode the Uly except I wanted that free courier bag.

I got it at Seminole Buell (Orlando area) which was NOT a Harley dealer.... that helped some (I really have a problem with that whole LIFESTYLE issue....and I can't dress like a pirate except for Halloween).
Historically, I've had 60s & 70s era Triumphs & BSAs and an 01 Speed Triple.

Now my Daughter rides an XB9s.

my 1st Buell/HD... Came from a couple of Ducatis, Aprilias, and my latest Suzuki Vstrom 650.

Absolutely love my 12XT. Now I know why those Harley guys love that Harley sound. Love the motor!

Only Japanese bikes for me in the past (unless you count Motobecane and Peugeot mopeds, in which case I had fair amount of experience with European "bikes" as a young lad).

Uly was my first HD BUell and first big bike. I had a cl126 spent some time on a xl600r and my dads yammy 750. Love this bike but still wonder if the GS wouldn't have been a better fit for me, just to darn expensive and the chance of a problem I couldn't afford to fix was to much. The Uly does what I need and I just take the off road slower and develop more skills.

The Uly is my first HD/Buell product and my first non dirt motorcycle. With over 43K on it I just have to wonder what other smaller bikes are liek to drive. Am I going to be disappointed putting my leg over every other bike and always compare it to my Uly? I to am looking to a F800GS as the "other" bike that will fill the gaps the Uly doesn't give me. Or save the money and get a KLR used and beat the hell out of it and spend the money saved on gas and tires.

Uly is the first buell for me, still have a Yamaha SRX600 and a Ural - otherwise everything prior is Suzi or Yami, oddly have never owned a Honda. LIke others a GS has been on my mind for years - right now don't see the point.

First for me. Always like the Cyclone. 30 years riding a lot of Guzzis and a few BMW's. Sold a Triumph Sprint 900 and a Ducati Paso to get my 06 Uly (kept the KLR, Just can't sell it). Have to say i really like the Buell, It has the comfort of the Sprint and the great handling of the Paso. I just hope i got a good one, I would to keep it for a long time.

I had a 96 Dyna Convertable and then traded that in for a 98 Ultra classic. After I sold that I was bikeless for around 7 years walked in to my local HD dealer and saw my Uly. First one I had ever seen. Did a little research and bough t it 2 days later

This was my first Buell and my first American MC. My son talked me into the Uly on the way to purchase an R1200GS. My O7 has had one blown fuse in 6K and wore out a rear tire. I have ridden every thing from a Honda trail 70 to a GL1000 (77) wing. I had to sell an R80GS in order to keep the Uly. I have had that silly grin on my face ever since.

Rode Japanese and German for the first 40 years and swore I would never ride a HD because of the poser BS and lack of "real" performance. Still holds true since I ride a BUELL.....Best bike I ever owned...

My 08XT is my first H-D/Buell...love it.

I also have:
1970 BSA Victor Special
1971 BSA B50SS
1973 Yamaha RT3 360

A lot of dirt back in the day, can't get enough of the road on the XT.

My two month old 08 XT is my first HD/Buell. My wife and I put in 125K miles on a 77 BMW R100RS before the kids came along. Also Raced Moto-X, short-track and Flat-track on practically every Swedish, Spanish and Jap bike pre-marriage. I sold the bikes when the kids came around and have not ridden in 20 years. My only regret is not buying the bike in the spring.

I love the Buell and have had great luck with my local dealer, Calumet HD/Buell.

My M2 (46K miles) is my first HD/Buell. The Uly (36K miles)is my second. Like Edgydrifter, I had a Motobecane moped as a kid. It was my first bike with underslung exhaust. After three years with the Uly, I still have that stupid grin.

This is my first American bike. I still have a Hawk GT650 needs some work and has been largely ignored sense I bought the uly. Also have Honda XL600R on long term loan to my brother. One day aspire to a late 90's liter bike 4 track duty. Never thought I would have fallen in love with a 45 degree air cooled V-twin. It’s not for every one but maybe that is part of why I love this bike. Do I want for other H-D’s? Not really I guess if I won the lottery maybe a street glide its fun to drag the floorboards. Maybe an 1125 or xb9s but there are other bikes that I would like to own first

08 Uly is my first Buell product. Also currently own a BMW R75/7...it now just sits in a corner of the garage neglected and collecting dust. Very satisfied with the Uly, the only problems (2000 miles)have been broken cable wireform and bike doesn't like 25 mph speed zones.

Dr Greg, I also have a 2006 Uly bit it's not my first Buell. I went to my local dealer back in 1998 and wanted to buy a Harley-Davidson basically because of the name and image. I had owned numerous metric bikes and just wanted a Harley. My dealer convinced me to purchase a new Buell and after test riding it, I did. So my first Buell was a 1998 M2 Cyclone which I rode until 2006 when I purchased a Ulysses. I was actually looking at leaving Buell and thinking about purchasing a BMW because it was more comfortable than the Cyclone. One day I was talking to Keith Ulicki and was telling him that I could no longer ride Buells because they were to cramped for my riding, he told me to just wait because he said that Buell was coming out with a new motorcycle and that he knew that I would like it. Sure enough Buell introduced the Ulysses and after first test ridding his I was hooked and purchased mine. I live right on the Wisconsin / Illinois state line and don't get to ride all year around because of the cold weather but I have just over 22,000 miles on it now and it's rock solid! No troubles what so-ever. I actually love this bike and will never get rid of it! I may purchase another motorcycle, but I'm never going to get rid of my Uly!
