i posted this in the appropriate lubrication section and got zero response after 24 hours, so i'm posting here. after returning home from my 10,000 mile service at the dealership i noticed that they put dino oil in instead of the syn3 which i have been running since the 1,000 mile service. they also put formula+ in the tranny. i'm not too worried about the formula+ as i hear it's good stuff. however, my question is should i replace the dino oil with syn3 right away or just ride on and change back after 2500 miles or so? it is new oil that i paid for and should'nt be wasted you know. what would you do?

If the dealer hosed it up, shouldn't they change it to Syn3 at no charge to you?

Dino is all I have ever run in my bikes so I couldn't really give you an educated answer. However, I don't think you will have any problems by leaving the dino in there till the next change.

I really don't see enough of an advantage for me to use the synthetic stuff due to it's cost and the fact that I will change oil at 3K regardless of what is said about the syn stuff. I do live in an area where the weather doesn't get real hot for more than a few days at a time so the added heat tolerance isn't needed for me.

dealer is 100 miles away and most of a day wasted. i would probably come out better changing it myself. i guess i bear some responsibility for not saying hey put syn3 in there, but seeing as how it's been serviced there before i just assumed they would look at their records and put syn3 in. you know what happens when you assume.

How do you know its dino? Did they charge for Syn3? If they charged you, give them a ring and speak to the service manager, perhaps you can get next service for a few bucks off or possibly they will change the oil no charge to syn3.

The culpibility is split down the middle.

Communication wasn't up to par.

Call them, let them know. Be honest, tell them you should have said something, ask them to mark your files.

Run it for a couple thousand miles and have a great time . . .this is some of the best riding time of the year.

It's not a big deal. Take measures to improve next time.

i'm sure it's dino because syn3 is like $9 and some change and i am usually charged for 4 qrts. 3 for engine 1 for tranny. this time i was charged for 3 qrts at $5.95 and 1 qrt for formula+. it's really not that big of a deal, it's just that i'm heading up to indy wed. for the races and although the temps will be moderate i'm sure there will be lots of stop and go traffic or just stop and sit traffic and i hope the dino oil is up to snuff for such conditions.

by the way, my dealer usually calls a few days later to see how my "service experience" was and if i'm satisfied. i'll mention it then and see what they say. i'm not looking for anything free as they are normally a very good dealership. it's not like they put the forks on backwards.

It's no big deal! Ride the bastad, and then change it when you feel like it.

Store the info, that they don't follow directions well, and next time you'll be able to make sure it gets done your way.

I promise, the Uly can't tell the diff.!

I'd run it till its due for the next oil change and not give it a second though. There are very few reports of people have any internal engine problems with these bikes regardless of what oil they chose to run.
