I've been looking at the XT since the beginning of the year. Seeing that 2009 will not come in black that leaves me to consider a 2008.

So what significant changes/differences are there between the 2008 and 2009? (I attempted to search and didn't come up with another thread on this - sorry if there is, my bad).

Thanks for any info.

The newer foot pegs

and the newer supposedly "better" belt. That's it.

Also a newer kickstand with a bigger foot, and blacked out engine cases. A few other minor tweaks. If you heart is set on black, you can get an 09 and just put the black plastics on. $200 for the airbox, $40? for the flyscreen, then sell your old ones. : )

And the engine cases are black instead of bronze.

hmmm.... I forgot about the blacked out engine cases.

The bigger foot on the kickstand, is that such a big deal?

The one advantage with getting a 2008 now is they are willing to "work the deal" compared to a 2009.

Thanks for the replies.

I call it the tiger woods putter : )

Don't think that just because its a 2008 that the dealer automatically will be more willing to work a deal. Do they have any 09's on the floor yet?

Well, I've had two different dealerships (Los Angeles area) tell me that they are willing to work a deal since it's a 2008. Now, I don't know exactly what that means but I'll take that to mean they won't be asking MSRP and whatever prep they attempt to charge.

Thanks for the picture.

I have an 08 XT and do not find myself wanting anything different or changed. If you can get a discount for an 08, take advantage of it.

I have an 08 XT and the kickstand that I have is the same.

Just so you have something to go on.. I just got it for $12200 OTD.. that is everything including plate, tax, etc..

The dealer in Mayer, AZ, Grand Canyon HD, has a 2008 X tagged at 11,700 OTD. They are throwing in a cover.

Thanks Chrisxt. That's kinda the price I was thinking. I do have this challenge though: I need to trade in my Yamaha FJR. It's hit or miss with dealerships if they'll take a non-HD/Buell as a trade in.

If you want a bigger foot print just get a touratech add on for $28 - it actually does better than the 09 on soft ground.

Jphish - will the Tourtech footpad fit the new kickstand?

yes...NO. Alas Froggy's right. But another reason to consider the 08. A fast black one.

I have test ridden an 08 and overall really liked the bike. Two minuses for me: engine heat and the mirrors.

And yes, "fast" black is what I want.

There are ways on here if you do some searching to combat that heat. I am starting some of them myself. Also American Sportbike, who is a sponsor on here, has Aprillia Tuono mirrors that work wonders from what I have heard. $30 or something close to that. I too went with an 08 mostly for the "deal" and I could get it in the super fast black.
