Any one ever found a way to mount a bike rack on a Uly? I found these guys http://www.cafemotos.com/johnnyrack/Enter.html but no models for a Uly. I travel all over Belgium every week to mountain bike. My $800 sh!tbox won't go over 45mph and my we are lucky if my wife's Xterra gets 15mpg. I'd really like to start using the Uly for trips so that I can extend my trips to include France, Germany and the U.K. | ||

Yup . . . I needed a bike for my bike as well and didn't like the high frontal area, poor balance, vulnerability and cost of other solutions. So I fabricated a custom frame out of 3/4" square stock and used two bike-rack arms attached to that. Works great and has nearly no more frontal area than the stock boxes when all's packed up. Balance and cornering are not comprised at all. Plus gives me an additional strong platform to load up.      (Message edited by desert_bird on September 04, 2008) | ||

Thanks for the tips and thread guys. I didn't even think to look over at ADV, there are some hardcore do anything on a bike guys there but then there are a lot of pansies as well who only take their bikes out of the garage a couple times a year for a trip and think they know everything. Like putting a bicycle on a motorcycle is a instant death warrant. Ciyxslicker a folding bike would in no way be an option. As I said I travel for mountain biking not just need a bike when I get to a destination. I would probably kill myself on a folding bike off-road, although I would like for for the train. Thanks for the thought though. My wife would kill me if I added another bicycle to the stable. Until my Uly arrives my bike collection may actually be worth more than my motorcycle. I know I get a kick out of loading over 4k dollars worth of bikes in my $800 truck to hit the local trails. | ||

There are folding bikes, and then, there are folding bikes: http://www.montagueco.com/ http://www.montagueco.com/bikes/paratrooper-foldin g-bike.html They may not be suitable for your application, but perhaps, they are worth a look. Even folded, they will still require a way to mount them onto your motorcycle. Have fun! | ||

I am still waiting on my Uly to get here. Delivery date got pushed back to the last week of Sept. I have a couple different bike racks I can cannibalize to make something work. Asdf - those still aren't going to cut it. Those whole bikes cost less than my steel hardtail frame alone. They are probably very heavy and weak at the same time. Besides I have no problems taking the 30 seconds it takes to remove the wheels on my bike for transport like desert bird does. Thanks for the thought though. | ||

A small trailer would do the trick... customize it to hold a bike or two.  It handles great. I would not hesitate to carry two bikes with a similiar design (No body... just the basic frame set up for hauling bikes.) Maybe I'll build one. |
