I know its not a Buell but its engine has Buell derived features. Saw one on the freeway in Milwaukee on Friday with a manufacturer plate. Damn that is a sweet looking and fun looking bike. Wish they would sell them here. A H-D I would buy for sure.

Yea but I saw one! Even worse lust now. Damn sweet bike and he was darting through traffic much like a sport bike. I sure hope they bring it here. Probably not enough chrome on it so they think it won't sell in dealerships over here. "put that thing over by them Buells in the far corner"

I wouldn't be surprised to see it announced in February '09 as a mid-year addition to the US lineup - much like the Nightster and Crossbones were.

If they think they're gonna sell like Buells they probably won't bring them in. Europe is a more sport oriented market so they probably see it as a nice foot in + they can sell it for a lot more than they would here. Ford did the same thing with the focus, in Europe they have this cool hatch that never made it to America.

You will always have models that are region specific.

I can say that the XR 1200 is a very nice bike. If I didn't have the Uly I'd probably go for one.

However I do think that Harley should sell the XR1200 in the US too. This bike is to darn nice just for us Euro's

I too am very interested in this bike. I hope it comes to the U.S., but I am afraid it won't sell.

I think it is a great looking bike (I would change out the exhaust however, not for louder but for sleeker). Great write ups in the rags and would like to test drive one. Maybe get one for a beater to ride to work etc. I want to keep the Ulyfor long distance.

I agree that it is a great looking bike. I have a very low grade lust for one. I would also like to see a less obtrusive set of pipes (Uly has me spoiled!)

And then there is this problem:
7655 British pounds = 13,526.385 U.S. dollars

Seems like too much to pay when much of what I love about the bike is that it is not festooned with all the usual gaudy HD gimcracks.

The exhaust looks pretty nice in person and that is how I instantly recognized it. With the Sportster in the $10k-12k range I would guess it would be sold here for about $9k-11k maybe. Let me dig around my magazines and see if I can dig anything up

It seems like a bike that would sell great but the major problem will be with the dealers. Not all are bad but a lot have the attitude that it you aren't buying a glide of soft tail than u suck & "sportster R 4 girls". Once again not all are this way I was in east coast in Dumfries last week just looking, and one of the sales guys was vary hip to the Buell thing and said he was going to try and get the bikes out of the corner,And set up a (sport bike section with Buells and V-rods) and maybe even a T-shirt or two.

The V-Rod Muscle would be fine for going in straight lines. Word is, they don't handle so good. If I wanted a straight line bike I'd look at the new V-Max.

I want a bike that handles better than that. That is why I have so much interest in the XR1200.

The Harley folks don't respect it though. Mentioned it to a buddy of mine this morning and he said, "That's just a Sportster though isn't it?"

The guy rides a Road King punched out to 103ci and lowered. It doesn't corner much, but it does have some grunt off the line for a bagger. A Sportster, even with 80-90 hp and good handling is never going to appeal to him, and he is a fairly typical HD rider.

What a fresh idea! Get the service techs up to speed on the bike before dealers start putting them on the street.

Chances are he's never actually ridden a bike that was designed from the ground up to handle and perform. I don't see the point in spending $$$ to "hot rod" a cruiser - all you're doing is putting lipstick on a bulldog.

I just taught a MSF Experienced Rider Course a few days ago and two of the best riders were on a HD Wideglide and a HD Heritage Softtail. Those guys could u-turn and do corners better than the crotch rocket riders in the class. They were both impressive on their cruisers.

I have to say, as a past FLH owner...the platform is fairly competent. I had a '96 and could run Battletrax on it in the thick of the Buellers, and even beat quite a few of their times. The *bikes* are pretty capable...the *riders* are more interested in profiling than in pushing the envelope.

That said, the XR is an interesting looking bike. I do wonder, however, how many folks will ride it and have it "feel just like a Sportster" as far as vibration and noise go. HD buyers aren't into the "little bike" sensation - less mass soaks up less vibration and road feel. Most want to be isolated from all that and just cruise on a 2 wheel couch... ; )

That has been my observation too. Cruisers, due to their low center of gravity and long wheelbase, are superior at low speed handling. However, get speeds up over about 50mph, and no mass produced cruiser made, regardless of who's riding it, is going to stay with a competent rider on a race replica sportbike when the road turns twisty.

Its like a viral infection, once you get started you cant stop. I really wanted a 1957 XL Sportster, they are impossible to find. For me they are the true Harley, 52 years strong
The core of the bike is stock, it is a 2005 XL883R, so the black motor and twin front brakes are OEM.
All of the remaining modifications are Harley accessory items except for the Arlen Ness Air Cleaner and the Thunder Header Exhaust.

It is still an 883, before getting into the motor, I decided to get the Buell for my performance riding.

I remember when, I thought I would be dead before the time I hit 40, apparently it happens in two weeks.

Thanks Atoms, it is a work in progress. Like they say at the shop, there is always one more part.
I gots SLD, Short Leg Disease, there is no cure for it. The bike you see me abusing and the one on my profile is a City-X. I am too short for the ULY. I blame my parents.
Doin alright I suppose, no kids, never married (never divorced either), working, own a house, payin the bills. Its not anything exciting that will get me on Oprah, but it keeps me in gas, cycles and MUD.

I do not relish the thought of trying to dirt foot around on a bike that I am off set 3 inches on either side of especially out on an off camber hill in muddy mucky roads where I tend to end up . And 425 lbs coming down on me is never my idea of fun.

Now if it was just a blvd queen, then I suppose I could get away with it.
I know my limits. I am working on finding the City-X's
