Just had to push bike home for the second time, fuel light doesn't come on and fuel screen on the odometer says F 0.0, always. What to do next? Don't really want to take it in as just got it a couple weeks ago and want to ride. 08 XB12X Oh and really glad theses things are light and easily pushed.

Warranty for sure. Fuel level sensor, most likely.

(duh. Guess that was kinda obvious... )

Ya, thats what I figured just wondering if there was something else to try, or if others had the same problem. Have to just watch the trip meter til I can get it in.

Benpushin,
Just think of all the money that Buell is saving you in Health Club fees, you know, with all that aerobic conditioning you're getting free-o-charge.
Your calves will have cuts like diamonds. By the way, which way to the beach?

A friend with a new Sportster had the same problem (well, at least the fuel light wasn't coming on, the Harley's don't have the cool odometer), so he ran a through a couple tanks of gas with some Lucas Oils additive and it started working. Possibly a coincidence, but for less than $10 it might be worth a try. It was some kind of injector cleaner/top end lubricator stuff.

I can find out exactly what product it was if you are really interested.

The only moving part in the fuel tank is the fuel pump(including the pressure regulator.)
The low fuel light, and "F odo" work off a "thermister", that is part of the fuel pump assy. But, can be bought separately.

You could certainly check the external wires for rubs, also check the connections, pinfits and terminations, for the low fuel circuits.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I'll take a look at wires etc. and get it to the dealer when I can, just hard to stop riding if it's going to take a while. Looks like the whole fuel pump assembly has to come out, not that it's a big job but an 08 with 2500 miles they should have to fix.

My fuel pump failed at under 500 miles and took a week to get the parts. Hopefully yours isn't that and is something minor. Wishing you the best.

I picked mine up yesterday and noticed today the countdown isn't working. I will have to report it at the 1000 mi service.

Not sure I haven't let it get that low yet. I have been basing my tanks off the mpg's posted on here but I am apparently the minor exception on that. First 2 tanks I have got 48mpg and 47mpg. so when I thought I was nearing empty I still had well over 2 gallons left. I will let this tank get down there though. 1pm Saturday to 7am Monday have put on over 250miles with out a long trip. Love this bike and more importantly so does the wife.

I have been! Its been a blast! Over 430 miles now. Got it with 22miles on her on Sat. Other than the few common complaints on here, vibration and heat, I have had none at all. The wife and I are so glad we bought this bike.
