If it looks like a cast part, which I suppose it is, it'll be really hard to weld.

I have actually had OK luck with that "aluma weld" stuff. I start the project thinking "this stuff is snake oil", but somehow by the time I am done brazing and grinding (and wasting a lot of it), the part somehow is completely functionally (though not always pretty). I have rescued a mirror perch for a KLR-250 (built up a full half inch of "stuff" and then tapped it and screwed a Buell mirror into it), and a folding mirror assembly for a Honda ST1100. Both fairly demanding applications, but both holding up fine.

That being said, I am a chronic cheapskate, and try all sorts of ill-advised things, but I would ***NOT*** (repeat: ***NOT***) screw around with that footpeg mount. I can't imagine what would happen if I was standing on that thing to go over a stray 4x4 somebody threw on the freeway in front of me, and had it break. Hard to imagine escaping from that without a compound fracture.

On that note... a buddy of mine had a dog that caused an accident, and while I did not get a lot of detail, the quote "apparently, you are liable for accidents your pet causes" was muttered at some point in the story...

Anything bad enough to break that support, that you can "recover from" for under $200, sounds like cause for a big party to me, not a cheap fix.

Bubba,

Which side is it? I might be able to hook you up with a perfectly functional, but less than cosmetically perfect, riders footrest support from when my XT decided to try and jump off the trailer coming back from March Badness V.

Send me a PM and I will Email you pictures of what I have,
