Are the new black pegs any gripier (is that even a word?) than the 'old' model - or just a different color ?

They claim to have more grip. Haven't seen one yet.

I posted a note to Court in the "Court in Session" forum; he said he would check on them but I haven't seen any response posted yet.

Looked at one in the showroom yesterday. The pegs are almost identical, the bumps are somewhat sharp edged. Possibly what you'd get if you took a belt sander to the silver pegs.

They did not feel a whole lot grippier, but I was not riding and was wearing tennis shoes.

Thanks for the responses - as I thought... not a significant improvement. I think I'll just continue with the allen screw (drill, tap & loctite) idea. I know they work. Only need 6 properly placed on each side to do the deed. Will post pics of the finished project. j

I did the same thing last year with 5 well placed SS set screws.

Maybe I should update to 6 ?

Well Hell yeah Florida! 6 is an even # & evenly divisible by 1,2,3,& itself. 5 is odd (& I think prime) Uly's, and us that ride 'em, are odd enough already. Get that other screw in there pronto! Actually 5 probably would work just fine - did you find any particular placement to be ideal ?

(right side)

I figured one located centrally out near the end would work well. I placed them in the recessed grooves, with hopes of not weakening the footpeg too much.

I like your arrangement. I was debating drilling the grooves or the bumps - Grooves make sense. Did you drill all the way through ? Not sure there's enough material thickness to tap if I try to 'stop' before hitting bottom.

I got a chance to check out the footpegs on an 09 today. Lowcountry HD/Buell here in Charleston, SC had an 08 XB12XT and 09 XB12XT. I didn't sit on the bikes, but they were parked side-by-side so I could easily compare the pegs A/B to see the differences. At first glance the footpegs look identical, but IMHO the 09's are definitely grippier. The small "blocks" that make up the surface of the peg are slightly sharper and there seems to be slightly more space between them. I think the blocks are actually taller, and since they're slightly tapered this produces this effect.

They're also coated in what seems to be anti-slip paint (like used on boat decks and stairs) which is pretty grippy itself.

Overall, I'd say they're a significant improvement.
