Regarding the plastic wiring harness guard that is fastened to the inner side of the fuel tank, on the left side of the engine.

How is it mounted? I am lining the interior of the fuel tank with Thermotec heat-barrier material, before I pull the plastic 'rivets' out, are they re-usable? Is there a particular way to get them out? I did not see anything specific in the service manual.

These are a ribbed type of push pin similar to those used on interior trim panels in cars. I would strongly recommend not reusing them. This loom guard is in a critical area that is difficult to inspect regularly, and if things start chafing or rubbing through, it could ruin your day roadside. There is a forked type removal tool available from Mac, Snap-on, or Matco. Probably most auto parts stores have some incarnation of them that should work.

Thanks for the info. They really did not look as if they'd come out, intact. I will look into replacements.
