Ok, I have completed a couple of 200+ mile trips using the Palmer Brackets with they Uly Touring windscreen.

WoW, what a difference. I am a believer. I have had almost zero neck/shoulder fatigue on these rides and the ability to run with my face shield up during these 105 degree days are priceless. There is no significant wind blast on my upper torso and riding two up, the wife says she gets zero wind turbulence or blast effect.

One of the best purchases I have made.

I have to recommend this as one of the must have accessories if you plan on touring on the Uly. This could and should be a factory accessory.

Yeah Slowride - All those Buellers out there suffering needlessly. Some like it the way it is...but the Palmers with a 16" Parabellum saved the day. I was using the ZG+4, which is ok - but the brackets allow for sufficient adjustment back to negate the wind effect and provide a bit more lateral protection with the Para. Iain's invention made the Uly a much more capable long haul machine. j

Slowride- When Ian first came out with these there was a running post about the settings and also height of the rider. How about some more info please. I am 6' even with a 32 inch inseam. I run the early tall windshield with the flip lip cut off and I have my brackets all the way back (towards the rider)and 2nd hole up.
thanks

Some of us embrace the wind instead of hide from it.

But to each his own.

I'm a believer in the palmer brackets also. I did the Sunrise to Sunset ride (7,500 miles in a week, round trip) with the brackets and ZG windshield. I need a shield with more lateral protection, Jphish's method could be my next move.

Bob - Us retired long distance guys just have different needs than the sport bike folks. We ride alot because we can & @ 60 my needs / interests are different than when I was 18 with a 59' Sportster. I've ridden the Uly with no screen, stock screen, ZG+4 with & without brackets & finally... where I am now. The Parabellum is about 4-5" wider than the ZG. With the screen all the way up and back, clean air even at 85-90. One notch forward seems to be slightly better for normal (65-70) speeds. (I'm 5'8" & 30" inseam) I get no excessive shear, buffeting, or bad vibes with this set up. Just fewer rocks and bugs in the chest & arms. Took it from the tip of Baja to the Yukon this year - really is a capable all weather machine. The 16" works well for my height - You may want an 18". Any taller - they start to look a bit overdone. Para likes to try and talk you into 22" or higher - may provide better protection but completely 'screws' the lines of the bike...not to mention enough sail area to tack the Queen Mary. The Brackets I think actually enhance the looks. I got my screen used - the previous owner had Parabellum cut it down. Nice even radius and no chips or cracks. CalSci also makes a screen for the Uly but it only comes in clear, last I checked. Hope this helps. Regards, John

Pso,

I am 5' 11" with a 30" inseam. The brackets are set to 3(height)and 2(middle)on angle.

I was actually going to start a thread called, "Whats your number" and see what everyone else was running.

Jphish,
I agree with your detail to Bob, but I am 34 and feel like I cracked the code on the Uly for touring. Don't get me wrong, I have lower bars and a different windscreen with a stock shield for when I want to be a hooligan, but that just adds to the versatility of this bike. Especially when it only takes me 30 min to reconfigure it.

I am 6'-0" with a 32" inseam and am using the buell tall (sans lip) set all the way up and at the center tilt setting. Getting extremely close to perfection! Maybe a slightly larger/higher screen will to the trick. I am toying with the idea of two light adjustable struts up from the handlebar cross-bar to stabilize the screen a bit. I am a little worried about material fatigue over time.

Slowride - Yep, thats beauty of these Ulys. One can be a hooligan or a tourer, and anything in between, with a few simple adjustments. Kinda like an all purpose multiple personality machine. j

I have a 25" Parabellum in my garage. How do I "cut it down"? What tool?

Bob, I have a Roto-Zip if you want to use to cut-down your windshield. Just let me know.

Palmer brackets and the ZG +4. W0rks great for me - 6'4"/34". I replaced a damaged CB +4 with the ZG and the *lack* of lip is a great improvement.
