Morgantown was having its annual cruiser-fest and I waved to many an inbound rider on my way to Mansfield, Ohio this weekend. This was my first experience of this event and there was a bit of sensory overload for sure. Worth a trip for anyone motorcycling inclined...there is something for everyone it seemed. I had the opportunity to demo the Tiger and the Stelvio. The drivetrain lash and general unhappiness with (slightly) crumbly asphalt dampened an otherwise smooth running engine on the Tiger. The Stelvio demo was good fun (there was a comment during the pre-ride briefing about the engine being happier past 3k...and to 'turn it up') but to me the bike rode very much like the Uly. There is more headroom to the engine but it is offset by a little less grunt below 3k (relative to the Uly), otherwise there felt to be no significant difference. The vibes were more low-frequency relative to the Triumph's almost inline-four like buzziness. Feels like the Tiger gasps around 9k, the Stelvio more like 8k. Brakes were easy enough to modulate with a little sponginess in the Tiger's rear brakes. Whatever the stock tires were fitted to the Tiger (I think they were Pilot Sports?) made for a confidence inspiring ride. At the end of the 800 mile, camping weekend, I was glad to be riding home in Uly. Keep in mind that as I write this, I'm also inspecting a well defined chicken strip on my rear Pirelli Sync and while I may blame it on this last bout of superslab miles, I'm not exactly shredding sidewalls...ya know? Saw only a handful of Buells and one other Uly all weekend.... Get well Joe! | ||

I had to work all weekend and missed it this year. I'll be back next year. Too much fun to miss. Most of the demo rides are great there. | ||

I was there but on Friday. I didn't demo this year anything this year, as nothing peaks my interests and I already have the best do it all motorsickle out there. But I do love Vintage days...so much cool stuff and never enough time. This year it was my wife...whining about walking and the heat and the dust...but she wouldn't let me leave her at home. | ||

My black Uly was parked in the grass center between the roads by the ride demo area. That was the first time I attended Vintage motorcycle days, what a great event. | ||

I saw a red blast, and an X1 crusing by at different times. My 9sx was right up against the gate in the corridor along the demo ride tent, right by the entrance to the infield. Did you stop by the Museum tent on Friday? I was there volunteering, and saw a couple Buell shirts and a Buell hat, but was in the middle of something and could not go over and say "hi". I was wearing the "Erik and the Thunderbolts" shirt in honor of the fact that the event was sponsored by Triumph  | ||

I went through the tent. I was in my green Buell shirt...I think. I parked out by the demo area as well. I was against the pits and was about 10 bikes in from the main road. Perfect parking space. I must have missed the Eric and the Thunderbolts shirt... | ||

I was there and didn't see as many Buells as I would have liked!!! I demo'd the Sprint ST and didn't care for it. The Norge was a decent bike, actually liked it. But the Can Am Spyder is cool. Like a street legal ATV. Won't replace a bike but cool as a toy. I think once the flash in the pan is over they'll be done with. |
