Hi, I've had a home made under seat blanket using foil backed jute insulation that I got off a junk car a few years ago but still had an issue with heat streaming out of the crack between the seat and the right frame rail. I've seen some good solutions here with the foil tape and formed aluminum flashing and then had another idea one night. I made a pattern and then cut it out of 1/4" chicken wire screening. I put a little bow into it to provide a little more clearance to the rear head and then put a couple of layers of aluminum foil HVAC tape over the screen. I painted the outside with black barbecue paint that I had. It is held in place by having a little tab under the front, cutout in the rear and then a couple of strips of the same tape to the frame. No more heat from this slit any more!

Clever idea in materials and execution. Mind if I practice the sincerest form of flattery and shamelessly copy your idea (for personal use only, of coarse). Randal |

Of course, that's why I posted it. Besides my patent hasn't been approved yet :-)) |

So the bike has been out since 06 so why no factory fix or some kind of option? Yamaha had heat problems with the first FJR and they addressed it. Heck they could make money selling heat blocks, everyone would buy one. Just reading peoples reviews on the web one of the big complaints and reason for not buying a ULY is the heat and of course the fan noise. I don't mine fixing flaws on bikes , I have owned a lot of Guzz's an own a KLR so to me it is normal but a lot of people are put off by having to fix things the factory should have taken care of. |
