Here is a gold mine of information to the Ulysses riders.

wvmountainrider.com

Go to this web page and check it out. What they don't show you is the little one lane back roads. It is all good. Real gems - good as money! Places that is so technically challenging, most riders have their skills challenged and honed.

I have been on runs all over the east of the Mississippi and have been on a few rides in Texas and Oklahoma. It is simple as this - The touring and riding here is some of the best in the world - PERIOD!

I have found my Ulysses to be one of the best bikes ever built for this terrain. Most bikes cannot handle the "technicals" and they lumber around like tuna boats. The Uly seems a bit over geared but it handles the hard stuff really well.

Check it out - chime in.

Cool site. I couldn't agree with you more. I love riding in WV. RT 250 from Elkin WV to Montaray Va is one of my favorite stretches. I did a little off roading down by black water falls. Actually you can just point your bike anywhere in the state and chances are it will end up being an incredible ride.

Bingo! 250 is the shizznit! There are several little side roads that real make it nice through there too. 219 is another gem.

Conchop, thanks for that link. I spent a week riding in 2006 and 2007 in WV. Absolutely spectacular stuff.

The scenic highway 55 out of Marlinton is real nice too.

Yes it is. Slow or fast, several runs up and down that road is real money. Blue Bend State park is a surprise too. I just discovered it over a Memorial day run.

Great tip on the website conchop. Last weekend I did my first camping with the Uly. I think I wound up doing most your central rides...Elkins, Thomas, Seneca Rocks...longish detour up to Spruce Knob, Kumbabrow, Snowshoe...and then back to Morgantown. The Uly gave me the 'bonus' 70 (out of 470) miles on gravel that I was always too chicken to take my other bikes. Thanks for the great info. BTW the roads around North Bend SP are kinda fun too...ask Wolfridge.....

Come up on US50! Loads of 'good' roads fork off it. While we always try to tell our business visitors not to take US50 (they often ignore...just once) when popping over the mountain, but on a bike...that's a different story. It is a pretty gentle (low gravel) transit into the state.....just my 2cents!

How about Brian Anderson aboard our XB12TT-modified, at 16 Mile, about to enter a 180 switch back at around 12,500 feet in the 86th running of Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.

For a first ever Buell entry to finish 2nd in the 1200 class, that's gotta qualify for some of the best riding ever. Oh yeah, Brian retired 7 years ago.

I might be there. I have to get my "youngen" back to college. Duty might be calling.
