I recently took my 2008 Uly to my Buell dealership for its 1000 mile service. They called me about an hour later and said the spark plug wires were damaged by heat and had to be replaced. It has now been 4 days and the dealer claims they haven't received the wires yet from Buell. Is this possible????

Yeah, but if I were you and had a little time, I'd go in and ask the service advisor to see them myself.

If heat killed your stock wires once, don't ya think that it might just happen again.

Do you want to be in this same boat next time your wires are exposed to the same heat?

Since the dealer is performing the labor, get some quality wires that won't need to be replaced in the near future and have them installed.

You will be glad you did.

Magnecor wires installed here, with split loom acting as armor for the front one. Spark plug wire pliers from NAPA, priceless.

When I installed new plugs and magnecor (sp) wires at about 9K miles the original spark plug wire to front cylinder was worn about 30% of the way through. Not heat related but abrasion related.

Just go to NAPA (or probably any other auto parts store) and ask for spark plug wire pliers. They have soft tips that grab the sparkie where they should, protecting the wire. They have a plastic one too, I elected metal. Shaped somewhat like needle nose pliers, or circlip pliers.

D'oh.... dummy me.

Thanks Red_chili. I missed the "pliers" part, thought you were buying Magnecors from Napa...

I've got the pliers, I really can't use mine (the metal type w/ the angled and plastic covered jaws) on the Buell, especially at the rear.

I find it easier to push the boots up and away from the plugs, then flip the snaps off of the plugs with a screwdriver. Since I use dielectric grease on the connections it's much easier than the first time I removed my plugs at my 10k.

One of these days I'll do the Magnecors, at 50k my original leads have got to be strained.
