If you are like me and love you Special Ops exhaust but also like to keep the peace with your neighbors you may be interested in this. I, unfortunately, leave the house every morning right at 5AM. I love my Spec Ops exhaust but anyone that owns one also knows that it is a little on the loud side. I have found a very inexpensive mod that allows you to run "full monty" when you want to but also have the ability to tone it down for the daily commute. I first took some measurements of the outlet pipe OD and ID then scoured the interweb for something that would work when I ran across these little beauties for under 4 bucks a piece. What they are is a baffle used in a set of HD 2" diameter drag pipes. I found them on Ebay for $3.29 a piece which turned out to be $9.30 shipped to my house in two days. I got them here. HD Baffles for 2" diameter Drag Pipes They did NOT just slide right into the exit pipe. I hit each one a little with some emory. Then cleaned up the weld inside each exit pipe with my dremel. After all that it a little test fit. Then after they fit nice and snug I took a measurement to see where I had to drill my bolts holes. Drilled my holes, cleaned em up with the dremel and slid them home. And here is the finished product. Now for a little before and after sound check. Sorry for the crappy video and sound but I took the vids with my digital camera. Special Ops No Baffles After Baffle Install It has definitely toned her down a bit especially in the higher RPMs. Very simple, cheap mod that can be done with some very basic tools. I know I would rather have removable baffles then go back to my stock exhaust. Hope some of you find this helpful. |

Thanks for the tip Hooliken. I used to run BUB's on my BMW, tried a couple of 6" inserts like yours which helped but I never really found a way to keep them solidly installed or rattle-free. I have my Drummer for sale for the same reason you worked on your Special Ops, but I'm not so eager to sell it and something like this may convince me to keep it! |

That looks like a pretty good idea. Mine is sometimes louder than I would like also. Have you noticed any difference in power or smoothness? I've sometimes thought the low end would have less tendency to stumble if there were more exhaust backpressure. Or, less intake resistance, which many have noted with the 07 airbox conversion. In any case, this is a pretty low budget deal to try it out! |

I have the stock exhaust but liked how you incorporated the before and after movie/sound clips, cool. |

I've sometimes thought the low end would have less tendency to stumble if there were more exhaust backpressure. Nope. It is in the fuel map and timing map. Mine does it no more. The '07 airbox does help. Making a bike sound nice but not obnoxious is always a worthy pursuit, though. |

I took my drummer off as well and was even considering selling it too. It was too just to blatty. This could be an interesting alternative. Thanks Hooliken |

I just took my Drummer off yesterday and put the stock exhaust back on, even with ear plugs, my ears just couldn't take it anymore. --Sean |
