I am planning to purchase the Pioneer Inno XM http://www.circuitcity.com//ssm/Pioneer-inno-trade -Portable-XM-Radio-MP3-Player-GEXINNO2BK/sem/rpsm/ oid/166403/catOid/-14581/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do ?cm_ven=PAID%20SEARCH&cm_cat=ADVERTISING.COM&cm_pl a=CATEGORY%20-%20MOBILE->CLASS%20-%20CAR%20ACCESSO RIES&cm_ite=173342%20PURCHASED%20KEYWORDS-PIONEER% 20INNO&cm_keycode=421283&om_keycode=421283

I have two questions:

1) Has anyone had any experience with this unit on a motorcycle and what were your impressions? I like the unit due to its built in antenna and ability to store music.

2) Mounting the unit is the other challenge. I know I could go with one of the ram mounts but, I want to buy a tank bag as well. Has anyone had success using satellite device from the map pocket of the tank bag? I will be buying the Buell Deluxe bag.

i use the inno on my Uly, it works well as long as the antenna is clear. I just slide the unit into the clear map pocket on top of my chase harper tank bag.

Bartimus thanks. My daughter has Sirius and I love it but have not wanted to farkle up the bike with an antenna. I was wondering how these portable units worked on a bike. I have heard some mixed reviews.

I've had mixed results using my Inno in a tank bag. I used it extensively on the way to Homecoming last year and it would frequently fade out headed north through the flat treeless Midwest. Passing trucks or other large vehicles or even going under small underpasses would also cause the signal to fade. I think I had somewhat better results heading due south, but not by much. The upside of the Inno is that even if your signal fades out, you can still listen to MP3s and stored content, so it's not completely useless. The MP3 playback features could be better, but they're livable.

I've bought one of the car cradles to put the unit in - that will allow me to connect the external antenna, I'm hoping that will vastly improve my reception. The car cradle doesn't add much size to the unit, and unlike the home dock, it doesn't have an attached base. On the down side, it's kind of expensive for what it is - I got mine as an open-box on eBay and it was still about $40.

I really wish the Inno had a way to directly connect a compact "lipstick tube" antenna like my older XM MyFi without using a dock.

You can get a Stilleto from Sirius for about $150. Basically the same radio, only Sirius instead of XM.

Yes I saw that. We get a special on the unit because we already subscribe. I just want something that works and have heard some mixed reviews about the reception of the hand held units. Some seem to love it others say they get crap reception. I know you can get the holder with the place for the antenna. I just like the thought of popping it in a tank bag and going.

Well based on the mixed feedback I decided to go with a cheaper basic unit with the base that holds the antenna.

With the mixed results of the handhelds, I decided it was too much of an investment to take a chance on.

I bought the bracket from www.cyclegadgets.com along with and XM express ez unit. I am thinking of going with the in ear headphones http://cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item= SPLUG if anyone has any experience with these I would appreciate the input.

I wish a Zumo was in the budget, seems like that would solve all my issues. Maybe in a year or so. I just bought the bike so I need to keep the budget in check for a bit.

I understand your concerns Pullme. I have the same ones but the temptation is great. I can basically buy the Sirius one about 1/2 price. What I really like about having one you can just put in a tank bag is that satellite radios are not water proof.

There are some very very good reviews on the S plug at www.sport-touring.net in their gadgets section. They are pricey though but if they hold up they are probably better than the etymotics 6i's that alot seem to like. Those seem to go for around $75.00 on ebay but there are reports of durability issues because of the way they fit under helmet.

I have one of these, have used it for a couple of years although not on the Uly, yet. This is for a used one and some more searching came up with another used one. They come with a kit that has just about everything you can think of. It is for XM which we are happy with.
