My wife saw a side car today and that made her nostalgic for the Philippines. Has anyone see or know of anyone making and easy on-off side car that would fit a Uly? Hey if it makes her happy and keeps me riding how much should I care. LOL

Buy a Ural. To fabricate a way to safely and effectively attach a hack to a Uly... well, what the heck for anyway?

Uly's are short, and tall, and fast and quick, and sporty. I think the geometry of a Uly with a sidecar would be a disaster IMHO.

My brother put a sidecar on his '74 R90S even though the manual advised against it. Riding behind him I could watch his swingarm flex like rubber when he gassed it. Eventually it split the welds of the arm wide open puking oil everywhere and halting him in his tracks.

He put the same car on his '85 K100RS and his K1, both bikes got the crap beat out of them with it.

IMMHO, get a Ural. It's built for the sidecar from the gitgo.

I agree with Xbimmer - I have a Ural and a Uly (its a "U" thing I guess) and there are a couple of things that make the Uly wrong for a side car:

Steering geometry - Ural uses a leading link fork - pushes the front wheel way out there for stability. Those that have tried taking the sidecar off of the Ural say it rides like crap - very unstable (talking the newer ones with leading link)

Power - Uly has too much, don't need it for the URal (40 bhp maybe?) - never have thought I needed more, especially during right hand turns (flying the hack)

Frame- Ural has pipe, Uly has .... a gas tank in there - not made for the stresses or welding required for a hack.

Of course this is all just my opinion - I am sure someone, somewhere has done and works great and only cost $1.50!

Given enough disposable income and sense of style, anything is possible.

Doug Bingham of Side Strider has mounts for a sidecar on a M2. Talk to him before writing off the idea of putting a sidecar on a motorcycle or scooter.
