Was out for a ride on the dragon about 6:30 last Sat night. Wasn't going very fast when all of the sudden I found myself sliding down the road thinking WTF!

I'm OK but my passenger broke her wrist and will prob need surgery. That really sucks. We both had full gear on which prevent lots of other injuries no doubt.

After the crash I walked back to where the bike went down and observed a stain that followed the road. It was oily and at the time I thought it might be diesel fuel.

Just saw this on ETR

Geez M - Sorry about your friends wrist!! Junk all over the roads these days - between truck tire carcasses, oil, garbage cans, (I even ran over a potted 6' tree & a poodle that fell out of the back of an open pickup - was behind a van that swerved to avoid it and there I was...) ya gotta almost expect it. The slippery stuff in the turns is hard to predict, or avoid the resulting calamity. Good thing you were both wearing gear - my downer on I-5 last year made a believer out of me! I don't leave home without it. Hope healing's in progress - Best to ya. j

The locals have been known to dump used motor oil in the corners...It happened to my neighbor...he caught it in time on his second run very early in the morning..It was not there just a few minutes earlier...

sorry to hear about the spill and hope your friends alright also. it's one thing to go down because of my own stupidity(past october) but it's another thing when someone else puts your life in danger because of their ignorance. and chances are the person will spend the money on a 12 pack of beer and a carton of smokes but won't put no money into his car to make it safe for him and anyone else.

Man, that sucks. Evidently the THP is too busy ticketing people for running 5 MPH over the limit and having non-standard license plate mounts to spend time on mundane enforcement issues like some moron deliberately creating a safety hazard.

Killboy had an update about it yesterday... sounded like it was a leaking transmission. THP had the car pulled over, don't know who's responsibility ends where.

On one extreme, cars can't be dumping lubricants all over the road. On the other extreme, a rider is responsible for setting a pace that will allow him or her to properly react to various likely road hazards. No idea how the law tries to put a black line down that grey middle.

Really glad to hear that the injuries weren't devastating - I never want to have to read a story like that.

What is it about that bit of time from when you encounter the threat and when you realize you've left the bike? I t-boned a deer at 55mph one cold day this year - one second I'm looking down at my tire hit the body, and the next thing I knew, I'm sliding to a stop on my back (my properly armored back!). The brain doesn't know what to do with all the stimuli.

I stood up with a sore arm and sore ribs, and a cut on my thigh, but that was it. You learn so much from these things, and hopefully from the other folks that can tell you about theirs.

I keep the riding jacket I was wearing that day in a closet downstairs. I take a look at it now and then, just to remind me of all the pieces that came together to keep me alive that day.

My passenger got her arm set today and won't need surgery. I am very happy about that.

The progressive insurance adjuster looked at my bike and I will have a check for the damages very soon. The damage was actually very minor and almost entirely cosmetic. I'm impressed with how well the Uly held up.
