So I've been thinking of putting the 08 trees on my 07. The along comes a thread with a nice big tkc. So I'm thinking if I am going to put on different trees why not get a couple milled. Anyone ever have custom trees milled? I want the 08 geometry but I want them widened to allow for the big ass tire. Is this going to be very cost prohibitive? Will I be able to get and axel for the front wheel wide enough? Thanks for your thoughts.


And please no comments on the Uly not being an off road bike it is my chosen platform to play with so street guys go play in a street thread please. No offense intended, we've heard you and don't care to hear it anymore, those comments always dilute the topic.

Bertotti,

No idea what it'd take to do it, but why do you want a wider tire in front? Most serious dirt bikes have larger diameter, skinnier front tires which seem to work better in sand, mud, etc. Installing the 08 trees without the 08 forks will lengthen your wheelbase slightly, and might give enough room to install a 19" front wheel which would be a step in that direction.

Initially I thought the factory 08 trees would be wide enough, but we are talking a bout installing a rear knobby tire on the front...well that's a different story.

Once you have all the dimensions from the 08 tree that you want to widen, try contacting these folks:

I'm no engineer (changed majors after my freshman year) ; ) but I think most trees are milled/machined from billet.

I am a little ways out before I start the process, I am in the thought process phase. I will have to measure a few tires and see where they fall size wise. I will also find a 19 inch to measure just to see if it will fit but I doubt that with the 2 inches added and the taller tire that it will fit even with the 08 trees.

I am not so aggressive off road that a 19 inch tire is needed. I don't really haul but I just like to tank through some stuff. A 19 inch wheel would just be icing on the cake.

I may have to pop for some 08 trees and mount up some tires . I have some friends checking some of their wheel people to see what they say.


Treads if I get anywhere with this I will let you know but be warned it won't be for a long while, most likely next summer. I am hoping to score a milling machine which will open up some more options for experimentation. Thanks everyone, Bertotti

I don't know how much clearance you need up front to mount TKC 80's but there could be a way to get it.

When you loosen the front axle the fork legs spread to give you about 1/4 inch gap between the bearing and the fork leg. this is the natural position the fork leg wants to dangle. I was thinking of putting a spacer in to fill the gap to possibly give the space you need to mount a TKC80 rear on the front.

Rotor head I hadn't noticed that but I doubt 1/4 inch is enough.
