Just wondering what the "best" flash is for an 06 Uly with regards to fuel economy. I just helped one of the techs walk through an 08 reflash and that got me thinking about my bike (06 UlyX). I have zero drivability issues, which I understand is the driving force behind most of the '07 flash installs on the 06s...are folks seeing better MPG out of the OEM 06 flash? Or the '07? Haven't delved into ECMspy yet, although I plan to at some point...but the bike runs well enough I may just leave it alone unless there's a marked improvement in fuel economy to be had by a reflash.

I've been getting low 50's the last few tanks of Union76 premium. That's combined 60% freeway at +75MPH, 40% twisty roads having fun with the road in 2nd/3rd gear above 3500RPM.

I'm happy.

What are you getting?

I ride hard. Mixed cycle commuting with the stock muffler I've been getting pretty much dead-nuts 42 on my 19 mile commute (each way) to/from work. Longer trips I get a little better. Yesterday I superslabbed it to Baltimore at 80-90mph steady, no point-n-squirt, and with about a 25mph headwind coming home I tanked up at 49, with a fresh-installed Drummer muffler (that I'm sure is going to knock a bit off my commute mileage). I'm not unhappy....but anything I can do to keep my money out of the oil a$$holes pockets, I'll do.

For reference, my thunderstormed S2 with race ignition and muffler (and saddlebags) is 42mpg, and my S1W with race ignition, cf aircleaner and uncorked V&H is also 42. Both are pretty consistent, although the S2 netted me a hair over 56 last year going to 1125 school in Scranton, superslab/mind-numbing the whole way.

Maybe I should play 42 in the lottery....

For what it's worth, my '06 10/05 build achieved my highest mpg at 58 cruising the Targhee Natl Forest July '06, bone stock. Normal mpg 44-46 then.

Installed the '07 air cleaner cover and mileage dropped about 2 mpg avg but I didn't reflash to '07 spec.

When riding altitude above 4k and with some spirit I regularly get above 50 mpg, as long as I stay below 80 mph on fwys it'll average high 40's.

Ratbuell,
Interesting... since 42 IS the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Jettdawg...forgot all about that, lol.

Forgot to mention, my bike also has a homebrew open inner airbox courtesy of a 1" wood bit : ) Been on there pretty much since new, so don't have a before/after comparo on that one.... Tryin' to use up the tank that's in there now with the Drummer on, to see what sort of change I got (I'm expecting 38-ish).

Andy at Appleton HD is flashing my 06 ECU with the 07 program this week.

Is a TPS reset required after the install of the ECU?

What is involved with ECMspy? i've read a few things about it but I do not understand the full extent of can or con not be done with the software and cable? Where would I get the cable and software?

Thanks

Rich

'06 Uly, '07 airbox, '07 flash with a bit of timing retard front cylinder to correct an off-idle ping (bike never had it before), and a Treadmarks square idle 68F/66R (I live at 5,280 ft.).

Last fill up, 48.8mpg, that included two hours flailing around in the dirt in first gear. Runs FIIIIIIIIIINE.

Google ECMSpy.

Prichmon- ECMspy is a freeware program that lets you not only do TPS resets, but also pretty much manipulate anything in the ECM programming. You can make your own cable or there is at least one supplier selling ready-made ones. Like RC said, google it.

I can make you up a cable for cost of parts and shipping. ($30ish)

Hello,

My 06' with 07' map, o7 air-box, K&N airfilter gets 42-45 back-forth city to home and on tours 51-53 mph.

I think it will be hard to compare mpg between maps but maybe 1-2 mpg but the trade off is better responsiveness (esp. with K&N).

I've got an 06 with race ECM, Pipe, and K&N, 07 airbox.

Best I've ever gotten was 50. Regularly get 45-48.

Get as little as 40 when I run it hard for long periods of time.

I have an 06 Uly with 07 aircleaner cover,K&N filter and Buell race pipe. Where can I get the new map for my ecm? I have the ECMSPY and cable. My bike runs rough at slow speeds and pops on de-accelaretion.

Geopatr - Xopti has the stock maps available on his site, toward the bottom of this page:

http://www.xoptiinside.com/downloads

Ratbuell - I remember that when the 07's first came out the folks that went to the 07 airbox and eeprom update started complaining of lower fuel economy. I'm not sure if that got resolved or what they did to try and fix it.

I have a stock 06, stock map, K&N air filter, and 3 one-inch holes drilled in the airbox. I find that I get the best mileage on long trips by keeping the revs between 3,000 and 3,500. Generally around 53 to 57, but I did pull down 61 on my last trip - it was long and flat.
