I read over on advrider.com that Buell has a newly released ECU program for the 08 Uly's. Anyone try this yet?

I noticed a bunch of people with XB12's on the Xboard talking about it, haven't seen a Uly get one yet.

#9ford over on ADV has an '08 XB12X. I'm waiting for something more official, my XT is running just fine.

Does this enhance the fuel economy?
Mine is getting a bit better as it loosens up.
my "record" is 42 MPG

(My X1 is quietly laughing in the garage behind big blue's back)

I just called my dealer and they have not heard of this patch. Can any of you elaborate on this computer program - part number or service advisory number or anything of that nature. Buells are not that popular here [yet]. It may be a population density thing. If there is a new program and it provides these results, I want it.

Hopefully someone with ECMspy will get the new "patch", then post his EEPROM on here so we can disect it and see whats up. Also it would allow us to patch bikes without dealer trips : )

I e-mailed my salesman (Ratbuell at Buell of Frederick) and he said he would check into this for us. He hadn't heard anything yet, he knew about the new map for the 1125 but not the 1203. His dealership is part of that Direct Link (or whatever they call it) program so they should be among the first to know.

Ron - directlink is an aftermarket programmer available thru American Sportbike...however, we are linked with HD and Buell through Digital Technician (right idea, different name).

They (for obvious reasons) don't let me within eight feet of the Digital Tech, so I haven't been able to poke around.

I've been scouring H-Dnet for bulletins and announcements, but nothing yet. Of course the "search" function, while improved over the last iteration of H-Dnet.com, still leaves a bit to be desired...

Our service manager has been out the last 2 days (worked the weekend, off M/T) but he has a voicemail from me to check on Weds when he gets in, and let me know on Friday when I get back.

Joe,

Digital Technician, Digital Technician, Digital Technician...There! Now I should remember it....

Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this.

Maybe the patch is for bikes sold outside of the US.

Maybe it's a patch for something else and they applied it to the 08... ? I've asked and gotten no affirmation that any patch exists for the 2008 thunderstorm 1203. At least not from Buell... Could be home brew?

Low Country HD/Buell in SC re-flashed the ECM of my '08 Uly today with the new patch. One thing I noticed immediately on the ride back home was the roughness just below 3K RPM was gone. The Buell tech said he had a hard time getting my bike to take the patch. He also knew about the 1125 patch.

Ok folks I hooked up my 08 uly to Digital Tech at work today to see what downloads were available. The factory ECM calibration that I have IS indeed different from the OEM calibration that is now listed. Now for the "bad". I only had limited time after work to futz with my bike and was unable to get the ecm to accept the new calibration. The next day that I might possibly have time to experiment will be on Saturday. I will let everyone know what happens then.

i'm the clown that had his 08uly updated up here in canuckastan , i do not know if it was a bulliten attached to the beta patch , all i can say for sure is , i dropped my bike off over 3 weeks ago not too pleased with it , we had found a exhaust acuator and cable that was broken , no codes or updates found at the time , it took 3 weeks for the cable to arrive , being a tech for ford i was curious about it so i spent an evening helping getting the bike back together , before the first ride we decided to recheck for codes and recheck for any possible updates , the factory calibration # was also different on my bike than the oem calibration , it was NOT there 3 weeks ago , it took well over an hour for my bike to accept it , the low rpm (below 3000) surge-cough is vastly improved , i never had a issue on the highway , the milage as of yesterday was 48.5 us mpg , a 5 mpg increase , tomorrow i'll try to pop over to souwest hd/buell and ask if there is a bulliten attached to this update

my bike had been running fair but not to my liking from new , i could tell the second the acuator broke at 1900 kms , the exhaust note at idle was very loud like an open exhaust , but before that i was in several times trying to get to the bottom of the low rpm stumble/cough , i was told by buell customer service this was a "normal" condition , i was almost ready to get rid of it , but its been a week tomorrow and i have no issues since the patch was uploaded , i put on 500kms , now at 2476 kms

Hmmmm...maybe I can get the "man" himself to install the patch on my '08 at homecoming! I'm sure he'd be more than happy to roll up his sleeves. : )

That's assuming, of course, that my left peg bracket arrives in time for me to actually make the trip.

Anyone that has the new patch & ECMSpy willing to share? Post a copy, it would be interesting to compare it to the first generation and see what's been changed.

i have a quick update , the patch did not have any info with it or a service bulliton , the only thing the tech could remember was the last letter of the program went from a "o" to a "y" and it took over a half hour to install , hope it helps

Thanks Froggy! I have an ECMSpy cable, but haven't got the confidence yet to mess with it on my own.

If you're feeling fairly skilled with the program, maybe you can give me a hand one of these days???

Lunch is on me!

OK - now we're getting somewhere. "o" to "y". Let's keep this ball rolling. Asides from a funky front elastomer, I've just about exorcised the demons out of my Uly. I think this new program is a winner and we need to get it on the market.

Ok fellow Ulligans here is the update. Th OEM factory installed ECM calibration is #B31US25o the new Ecm calibration that is now the only one listed on Digital Technician is #M31US25y. I managed to install the new calibration on my 08 Uly tonight. The laptop Digital technician flatout refused to install the new calibration on the bike. We do however have the new pocket pc version of Digital Technician which is a handheld wireless version of the laptop at work. Using the pocket pc version I was able to install the new calibration on the first try!!! Nothing to report yet as I only had a short commute this evening. Hopefully this will cure what ails the earlier 08 ecm problems that many have had. We shall see. So all who need to have this done here is the point. THIS CALIBRATION IS A NON-CHARGEABLE DOWNLOAD FROM HD. That means you don't have to pay for it!!!!!! So if you want it take your 08 to the dealer and have them check for the update on Digital Tech. There is also no service bulletin from Buell saying anything about the updated ECM calibration. Good luck to all!! later
