I just ordered a new front isolator for my '06 Uly, 27,000 miles. This is the third one. The parts guy said it was up graded and had a new part number and is now called a "kit". The price went from $53 to $84.

Has any one ordered one? I'm hoping it is a better isolator and not just a bag of bolts thrown in.

Your lucky! The "kit" costs £75 in UK, that's $150 of your dollars Sir!

I was just wondering about mine today, and I have a few questions. Are there any symptoms before it fails? When it does fail, how long can it be ridden? And last one, can anything be done to prevent failure. I noticed the thread that said to squirt some silicone spray in there.

When the isolator starts to go bad, you will notice vibrations from the engine reaching the frame, seat, bars, and foot pegs. Unless you do some hard off roading, racing, or wheelie slamming it can come on real gradual like. It is kinda like something is wrong, but you can't quite put your finger on it.

Both of mine that have failed have been very noticeable when riding two up. It will have much more vibration, then you go back to riding single and it just feels off, somehow not as smooth.

To visualize the break in the rubber cushion I look up at the mount where the bolt goes through the center. There are the rubber "wings" that come out to the outer perimeter of the mount. Those "wings" will show as being cracked where it meets with the center part of the mount. After it reaches "complete" failure that rubber will be loose from the center or outer piece altogether and the large washer on the bolt will be touching the mount on the top or bottom.

I am older and have a vibration sensitive body(junk parts), and as such I notice it when it is starting to crap out. I have ridden other Uly's that it was completely broken out and I don't know how they can be ridden at all.

Here's to hoping the new isolator is a better one!

I just ordered a spare Drive Belt, and that part number was also changed recently. Same price though.

Hey Vern
That's odd you mentioned that. I was riding home tonight and felt like the front was a little harsher than usual..kinda thought that maybe the warmer temps might've affected damping. But I took a peek at the front isolator and just as you described, there is a big crack/tear on one side of the mount...(that wasn't there at last oil change, 1k miles ago) Yay!

Mine failed suddenly at just over 600 miles. I pulled away from traffic lights and I thought the front wheel was square!!!! I rode it for 1500 miles until the dealer could get one in stock. The Uly magis was beginn9ing to wear a little thin and I was seriously considering getting another bike!!

It wasn't too bad when accelerating. On a constant throttle, it was like riding a jack-hammer, but closing the throttle was an absolute nightmare!!!!! It was truly awful!!!! Stop start riding was awful and because the motor was actually moving, it was incredibly snatchy when opening the throttle.

I am posting a pic on mine as it was when collapsed, then I will post another as it should be. The motor literally falls forward onto the lower part, (the "washer"), of the mounting and transmits all the vibration. Extremely uncomfortable!!!

By the way, you might just catch a slightly out-of-focus peek of Strada's clutch cable bracket in the lower left corner!

There is no doubt you will be happier riding now! Your's was really beyond its expiration date!

Orangulius' was like that when his bike was nearly new, We swapped bikes for about a half a mile or so, I couldn't ride it any further.

Is that the new updated part number? does it look beefier in the center rubber part?

Hi Etennuly, I'm not sure if it is the new part number, all I know is it is night and day to ride!! I am a Happy Bunny again!!!!

I also had the can replaced with a brand new Cam coated item FoC, and this doesn't have the little perforated heat shield on the tail pipe.

I just called my dealer to order this updated isolator. There was a change to the part number between 06 and 07. The 07 number is still current in the computer. I'm assuming that is the correct part? It retails for $82.50, which sounds like the same part the original poster got.

Kinda hard to see in the picture, but it looks like the rubber "wings" in the mount are quite a bit thicker.

"Happy Bunny" is the intended goal for everybody!!

Hi Ken! Did you order yours yet? It'll make a big difference.

I'll try not to ride mine until the part comes in.....maybe

I had the same symptom as mentioned before. Lots of vibrations when riding two-up. Just checked the Isolator and it is not cracked. But it has some funny silver marks on each side. Bike is a a 07 model.
What to do? It is still under warranty.
Ride safe Werner

Could yours be broken loose from the outside perimeter? It should hang like L-D-C's does in his last picture.

Your service writer at your dealer should be able to look at it for you to see. Can you post a picture of it?

The stock part for '06 models was L0501.02A8C and is no longer available from HD. They "supersede" the old number to the new number. The new number is L1501.02A8 and is listed as stock on '07 models.

What about the 08's ??? Is this a newer nicer elastomer?? I hear that they had developed a more comfortable isolator, but they programmed in the H-D booty shake. For some reason [ tradition, heritage, patriotism, blah blah blah] they thought the H-D experience needed to be programmed into the Buells. So, rumor has it, there is a more EFFECTIVE elastomer out there.

Is this it????

Question - does anyone have an old broke elastomer isolator they would want to sell??

You don't have to get the whole kit, do you?
Can't you just replace the rubber dingus in the middle?

failed isolator

This is what my front isolator looks like too. Thought I was going crazy with the extra vibes from the motor under braking.

Talked it over with the dealer today and they said they have to look at it then they would have to order the parts. Sounds like a 2 week process, might just order it and do it myself.

It is funny, after this thread was posted I went and checked mine. 17,000 miles on it, and the warranty expires next week. 6/21/08. Mine is starting to go also. Called my dealer and they set me up to get in before my warranty expires.

Fastmag - Mine has had little crack like that in it for at least the last 30,000 miles. I'm not sure if they are abnormal or not. I just ordered a new isolator, so I guess I'll be able to tell after I put it on.

Yeah...I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I thought the Fastmag photo is what the isolator is supposed to look like.

Anyone with Photoshop skills able to point to the failure in that pic?

So the dealer looked at it today and is set to order one for me. While I was there I wandered around and looked at two other used Uly's there and they had them also. Probably not a big deal. I have probably had mine for the last few thousand miles. But my warranty expires on next saturday and I have only used it one other time. (To replace my belt because the threads were showing on the side - didn't need it. all other Uly's I have seen looked the same) So why not get a new one.

Get back to us on how much smoother the bike feels when the new one is in place. That crack in the rubber is the first sign of it failing.

When the '06 Uly's came out a lot of people were going to great lengths to fix vibrations that were in the bars and pegs. I'd guess this could have been their problem all along.

I know that when the new ones have been installed on my bike, the difference in smoothness is amazing. I will post back after mine comes in.

Thanks very much Sekalilgai! Didn't notice that until you circled it.

I thought the collapsed mount was the only indication of a failure (like in Longdog_cmyru's photo).
