So this weekend I installed the Iridium plugs, changed the air filter, and put two 1 inch holes in the air box. When all was finished the idle was a little high, so I backed it down to 1050. On the ride home the idle was stuck at 2500, but it would drop back to normal after a minute in neutral. This morning it idled fine until about 10 minutes into my commute the idle would stick around 1700. It doesn't happen all the time while riding. So other than the occasional high idle there's no problems. No coughing or popping. So did I not hook a hose up correctly? Could it be the exhaust valve sticking? Or do I just need a TPS reset?

If you have ECMspy, have you tried Treadmark's square idle yet? FWIW, mine acted just like that if I had the idle set a tad too high after a TPS reset.

Did you do this with a cold engine? If so, yep that's what happens. You can do a TPS reset, or run the bike for 5 miles or so at about 3000 to 3500 rpm steady. That should make it act normal again. 950 rpm is better than 1050 btw.

This is a dumb question but where is the idle set screw on an 08, I can't find anything in the manual. Is it done via a TPS reset?

I don't have access to ECM Spy yet, but I will try to reset the idle tomorrow while the bike is warm. Is there anywhere that has ECM Spy cables in stock?

No TPS resets on the 08s, I believe.

+1

I know the book states 1050, but a solid TPS reset and a 950 idle work pretty good an an 06.

The computer has control of our 2008 idle and TPS settings.
Get out your tinfoil hats!

It is nice to let it start and run when it's cold though.
I have to play with the throttle on my X1 until it warms up.
