Hey guys,

Right now my bike is sitting at about 8100 miles. In two weeks I'm riding up to CT to see my family, and then from there to Homecoming. It's 1200 miles to CT, 950 miles to Homecoming, and I will put about 250 miles on it before I leave FL.

So, I can either get the 10K service done here before I go, when there's only about 8400 miles on it, up in CT when I get there when there's about 9800 miles on it, or after I go to and return from Homecoming, with about 11700 miles on it.

The problem with doing it in CT (at Danbury HD, unless someone has a better suggestion that's closer to Kent, CT) is that they might not be able to turn it around in a day or two, which is all the time I'll have. And I have to get out the door no later than early morning 01JUL to get to Homecoming by the evening of 02JUL.

So right now I'm debating whether I get it done here in FL, (actually in GA, because there are no Buell dealers closer than Tifton) with only 8400 miles, or wait until after Homecoming with 11700 miles...

Any ideas, hints, suggestions? Oh, and I am not doing it myself, because I don't want to screw the bike up right before two big trips...

Thanks.

I would wait, you aren't going to contaminate the oil or the plugs much doing that kind of riding.Just make sure you primary and clutch adjustments are OK. This is my opinion only YMMV....

If you're coming through MD, send me a PM. We may be able to slide you in-n-out in a day.

Barring getting it done en route, a little late won't kill ya. Keep an eye on fluid levels and condition and do a good visual check on everything before each long trip leg, and you should be fine. Carry spare oil with you if you have space for a quart of each...

I may think about that. I hate to say, but about the only maintenance I do myself is to check the oil and add if it needs it, check the air pressure, and install farkles.

Oh, and I fixed the ground wire for my headlights when they went out while I was riding home at 1100 one night. The ground behind the lights had broken, so I had to fix that. No problem.

I haven't done jack to the engine, so I depend on the mechanics to do that stuff. It's embarrassing, because I used to have a '69 Mustang that I did all the maintenance myself, rebuilt the engine, etc. But it wasn't my primary driver either...

Screw it, I guess I'll wait until after Homecoming. Then I won't be stressed about not getting the service done quickly enough and being late to Homecoming. That would be a pisser.
