I'm not really sure what HD is thinking on this one. As a market share play, MV is a huge step backward compared to Buell. On the tech side, I don't know if they have something in particular that HD would be interested in (a particular engine, drive train, etc). I don't know about European dealers, but I can't imagine that the MV dealer network is as strong as Ducati, Aprilia, Triumph or BMW.

Just strange.

Just seems like MV and Buell are duplication...don't know that Buell can make it on their own if they separate from HD.

I don't see Buell and HD seperating anytime soon. HD has shown repeatedly their dedication to forwarding the Buell brand. Some "perceived" seperation may be good for the brand - put Buells in their own buildings or own showrooms - but at the current sales levels that isn't really feasible.

As for MV...dunno. I saw somewhere else on BadWeb some speculation about scooters. Possible, given fuel prices. I know our Blast's have been selling like hotcakes lately just for the fuel mileage. Hell, if I didn't look like a circus monkey on one (6'4") I'd get one for commuting.

My first reaction:

The buy makes sense to me

HD considers BMC as a "boutique" bike line.

I dont know If I agree with that 100% but I would say MV is a "boutique".

Harleys attract top line buyers in the cruiser market, IMHO buells dont attract top line sport buyers (nothing wrong with that, speaks to buells practicality.) Maybe they are looking for another top line with a healthy margin to sell to sport bike top line buyers. I always hear dealers talking about the meager margins of Buells compared to HD's. I'm sure dealers would like the margin on a 40k MV.

They are definitely accustomed to high margins....you would think HD would like to have a bike for everyone who walks in their store or rides , cruiser, dualsport, adventure, sportbike, etc, ala Honda..why be able to sell to only one segment of the market, especially in times of declining unit sales. I'm afraid I just don't see two different sportbike lines in a HD dealership.

Makes no sense to me. HD must need additional retail outlets in Europe.
They can't be thinking of selling MV's here. They can't even do a decent job of
supporting an American brand started by one of their own engineers.

Think the MV will cost the same as the Buell?
