Mine seems to have coated the rear brake disk
with carbon.

Other than that, it's been running mint.
I get about 40 MPG so far.

Did the 2006, and 2007 carbon up the brake disks?

It is not happening on my '07. If anything the thing runs too lean. If I had to err on one side or the other I'd rather it be lean, but ideally of course a perfect median would be uh, perfect.

(And while I know there are adjustments I could make, I am too lazy/busy to do anything about it. Except whine and moan.)

My '06 runs pretty clean out the pipe.

It's been speculated that Buell fattened up the fuel map on the '08's so they'd run a bit cooler and surge less on the bottom end. That 15%-20% more fuel is going somewhere. I'm hoping the ECMSpy guru's will come up with an alternative fuel map that will trade off a little less fuel usage for a little more heat.

All of the fuel map problems which I corrected, in order to get the bike to run right, were due to a 'too lean' condition, within the various cells.

Given a choice (and within reason, of course) I would much rather have my bike run slightly rich, as it does now. For any number of reasons, stated previously.

I never purchased the Uly for any MPG advantage ... I got 36-38MPG the last time I ck'd ( damn, I like those jackrabbit starts) and could care less as long as it runs well.

Just my 2 cents.

Johnboy777,

So you turned your '07ish Uly into an '08ish one! I'm not terribly disappointed with my XB12XT's 42 mpg, and he/she/it does run good. If a little tweaking will get me 45-47 with little downside? I'll take it.....

Hey, Rwven

With all due respect - forget about your MPG. Ride it, enjoy it, and have fun. These really are great bikes.

John

John,

Believe me, I have been! "Funnest" motorcycle I have ever ridden. The only time I would really like the extra mileage is when I am racking up the miles on a road trip. Great bikes? You sir are a master at understatement.

Ron.

I'm not really complaining.
Mine runs so smooth at low RPMs, it's hard to compare to my X1.

I could use a bit more midrange grunt though.
I'm keeping an eye out for a cheap XB12 muffler to hack.

If it's running a bit on the rich side, it should run like a raped ape with a louder pipe, eh?
