I posted the same question on ADV. I remember reading a rumor somewhere that there may be a more dirt oriented sync coming out. Has anyone else heard this or have any info on it?

What kind of off road? I wouldn't hesitate to take a sync on gravel, dry grass, or dry flat dirt.

If its wet and not gravel though, I would not touch it... 616 or Sync.

I guess I've spent too much time wrestling my buddies XR-650L up muddy hills. Not much fun...

My uly does well on dirt roads and parking lots.
I wouldn't take my $12,000 bike into a sandpit though no matter what type of tires it has though :P

Not looking to change my tires any time soon. I have a lot of life left in my syncs. I just thought maybe if the rumor were true it might mean a general interest in Uly size tires is picking up meaning more choices for us in the correct sizes.

FWIW worth I have been through rutted fields and am itching to get on some easier single track as soon as tires option will let me. The gravel roads out here can get torn up by farmers and big rigs and weather so a more aggressive tires would be nice. I'm not a knee dragger and don't fly around on the road so the loss of street use to some degree won't be a problem.

Bertotti,

Check out the Avon Distanzia tires. The rear is only a 160, but it fits and works just fine on the Uly. Granted, the Distanzia's are not true knobbies, but it is a step up from the Synch in the dirt, and you don't lose anything on pavement, except maybe a bit of tire longevity.

the syncs are fine for fire roads, hard pack dirt, occasional thin set mud and of course rain

for thicker mud and bigger shale, rocks, and creek crossings go with the MT60s a more aggressive knobby.

And for really muddy chunky filthy puddle hopping and slinging there was a ULY running MTK's but you have to remove the front fender set. (somewhere there is a pic, but I cant find it right now)

I saw that thread and liked it. They were tkc's and I believe the individual took them off already. They had to trim the outside lugs off, and off road they still rubbed on the insides and if I remember right they didn't like that so off they came. I thought about having a machine shop make me some wider triple trees with the same set up as the 08 trees but I don't have a set of 08 trees to copy. Granted that means a longer front axel and a couple shims but I was ok with that as long as it worked. Also, yes it was a rear wheel up front and that company says it is ok to run their rear tires up front as long as you remember to reverse the rotation of the tire. Arrow pointing the wrong way when a rear tire is mounted up front because the tire is built to be driven and in front it is being pushed and under even more strain when breaking. I love that look for a uly though.

Maybe American Sport Bike will come out with a kit for the tkc's.

1) What brand of tire please.

Tires are Continental TKC's.

It's not my bike though. I don't know the owner.

You can read about it here, on ADVRider.
