So I'm out west on a 3 week romp across the entire USA and my drive belt breaks at 35,000 some miles on it.

At least it broke in the hotel parking lot 1 mile down the road from Santa Fe HD. As luck would have it like most HD parts departments they didn’t stock the drive belt. I don’t blame them they are an un predictable item to figure out when they are going to break. I took a check of the time and I had just enough time to call Al Lighton at American Sportbike. Al had one but it would be tight to get it to Santa Fe by the next day. Between Al and me we looked up some contacts on the BRAN. Come to find out the service manager at the Santa Fe HD is a huge Buell lover and owner of many, many Buell’s. Al and Murrae I guess go back some and AL confirmed that I paid and shipped a new belt to the HD dealer in my name. Murrae knew a local Zane that isn’t on the BRAN that had a spare belt in his garage. One call later I had a belt to pick up the next morning at the HD dealer. I picked up the belt the next morning. While I was waiting for Zane to show he dropped the belt and I caught a glimpse of him ride off and never got a chance to thank him in person.

Thanks Zane!!!! Whoever you are!!!!!

Just a note to the dedication of Murrae at Santa Fe HD, he did this all from home and not at work because he had family in town for the Memorial Day weekend. That was the craziest service department I had ever seen. There was a huge rally up in Taos, NM that weekend. Coudo’s to Murrea’s team for great service to my father in-laws bike. Funny thing my father in-law dropped off his new road glide for a 1000 mile service. The BRAN located a drive belt and I had it installed before he got his bike service finished. The father in-law is still trying to figure out how the hell the BRAN thing works and who the hell runs it and is there a HD one like it.

Al Lighton worked hard to make things happen on his end to get me back on the road also. I know that the parts I already need will be ordered from Al. I’ll need a fan, brake pads and another spare belt to pack for the next big trip.

I just can’t say enough for the way Buell riders stick together and work it all out when a rider’s bike goes down. My belt broke on Friday at 4 PM and by 10 am Saturday morning I was on my way home!!!!! This all couldn’t have worked if not for BADWEB and the people on it. Special thanks to ULYWIFE that maintains the list for us all. If you travel a lot and don’t have a BRAN list on your bike you’re not helping yourself any.

I'm kinda feelin' all warm and fuzzy inside after reading this story.............

..........or was that the spicy grilled chicken I had for dinner??

Good on Sant Fe HD/Buell, Murrae, Zane and American Sportbike for getting you back in the saddle.

Nothing's worse than to have your ride down far from home and feeling helpless. I always stop to check on bikers alongside the road, just last week gave a very appreciative gent a ride who's vintage hybrid Triumph left him stranded. Not sure if the first reason I stopped was his arm waving or to get a closer look at his very interesting beast.

Very cool. I was lucky enough to go riding with Murrae up through Taos and Red River. Excellent ride leader.

Special thanks to ULYWIFE that maintains the list for us all.

You're welcome! Glad the BRAN was a help in getting you back on the road. A very special thanks to everyone who keeps their name on the BRAN and doesn't mind me contacting them once a year to verify their information. BadWeB is a great place with some extraordinary people here.

Glad to help, Dave. It was quite the last minute panic at the end of Friday to get that belt out. We let out a big sigh of relief once the belt was on the truck on the way to the best address.

Good job, Murrae and Zane!

Al
