I always wear ear plugs. It makes it great fun when I have to ask "WHAT" several times to the CHP officer who just asked, do you know how fast you were going?

I have used my LiveWires custom ear speakers for 6 months now and love them.

I am getting into the habit for longer highway trips.
Not even sure it's legal in Fl. but they are my ears and I used to work with a guy who was suffering from riding related hearing loss. So he put the thought in my head long ago.

I used those Mack's silicone plugs years ago when I perforated my eardrum and had to keep water out.

(Perforated ear drum by wiping out on a hydroslide kneeboard while whipping around the boat on a turn- probably around 60 or 70mph, skipping across the water. It water-jetted my eardrum. No surgery, a small tear.)

"So he put the thought in my head long ago."

Very funny...

I wear the basic foam ones pretty much 100% of the time except to head down the street on an errand.

I do find that they stick out of my ears just a tad too much, which means I have to careeeefully put on my helmet so they don't get knocked out by the padding as it crosses my ears. No big deal if I'm going to be leaving the helmet on for a long period of time, but it's especially annoying on touristy trips when I'm stopping a lot to take pictures or see sites and frequently taking the helmet off.

In these cases, I shorten them a bit with sharp scissors (but not enough to get stuck in my ears).
Earplugs

A free set of slightly used orange earplugs to anyone who can name the California town I'm in (standing in front of the Main Street Grill).

Yeah, I am slow to catch on but always remember him as an example. Had to make sure that he heard you, eye contact was a must.

(When I was younger)I always figured some of his loss was because he was older and had ridden louder bikes with less modern helmets.

Now I know better...I used to bang around in the car with windows and sun roof open and the stereo blaring too, later a convertible..concerts..

Wore muffs shooting..

My only problem with earplugs besides making them a habit, is that it is easier to be riding a little faster without noticing... or at least I feel that way.
