Witty and fun Dr Greg. Great Trip, wish I was riding along!

Great to hear about the Uly in 115° heat doing so well.

DR GREG- how do you like your Shoei helmet??? I am thinking of changing up/back to the motocross style. I always hated the head drag/visor grabbing at highway speed, have things changed??? I would love the shade though... any info would be great.

Hi Pete,

I love the Shoei Hornet DS. Quieter than my Arai Quantum, great visibility, "peak" doesn't catch the wind, etc.

Wish I had bought it sooner. Highly recommended. Never worn an Arai XD (a new model of which just came out) for comparison...

Slightly off topic, forgive me.

The sun and I have a love hate relationship. I'd love a visor, but can't imagine it being anything but a drag at speed.

The Helmet Sunblocker is a great compromise. It is a UV blocking strip which adheres to the inside of your visor. I got my last one installed at a rally for uh, not too much money. I forget the exact amount - $10 - $15 of the best dollars I've ever spent.

I got a knock-off many years ago and it did not stick as well as the Helmet Sunblocker which has never come loose from any of my helmets.

Thanks Doc exactly what I wanted to know-

Great write up also- the barefoot comments were covered on ADVRIDER so I won't touch it here... your justification was also entertaining.

Cheers-pete

Fun story...

Tell me about your RADAR detector mount...very slick. Do you run it up to a speaker? Headphones?

I have mine on a TechMount stalk on the handlebars looking through the windscreen. After one very cold ride, it just stopped detecting RADAR (even in my car), so I'm wondering if the temperature affected it or the vibrations rattled something loose.

Yeah, until the RADAR detector fell off between Gallup and Holbrook (yes, literally). I have it stuck on with some interlocking grippy stuff (like velcro but much stronger).

I walked back and found it in the median. Than it fell off again last Saturday and I never found it. It was getting old anyway...

However, I use a "Screamer" speaker which is loud enough to hear inside a helmet with earplugs (which I always wear).

And I was just going to modify the radar mount for more secure mounting...humph.

I'm curious - what's the hi-lo-off switch in your temp photos?

Great to hear about the PR2s doing so well, I just put a set on my S2 and haven't had much of a chance to burn them off yet...I may try the Distanzias when the 616s wear off my Uly - like you, I need the grip. We've got a crappy 3/4 mile washed out gravel drive to a piece of land we bought, and I ride up there after work every day to work on renovating the old log cabin that's there so we can move up sooner rather than later. Grip is goood. Paved driveway is expennnsssive, lol.

Great ride report - love the pics, and the writing. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Dr Greg - Thanks for the vicarious adventure. Looking ahead to my next set of road rubber. Got syncs now, but considering the PR2's. Whats been your experience so far in terms of mileage, handling etc. Thanks, John

I don't know how much work that would be...at the moment I've got lots of demands on my time. Should be some way you could get to ADVrider.com...

I'm curious - what's the hi-lo-off switch in your temp photos?

That's the hi-lo-off temp control for the Symtec heated grips. I didn't need them going out in 114 degrees, but darned if I didn't use them coming back!

Got syncs now, but considering the PR2's. Whats been your experience so far in terms of mileage, handling etc.

I think I've mentioned that, but they seem to wear very well and handle well also. Only drawback is there's not much tread for off-pavement. I like the Distanzias for that.
