Replaced intake gasket, and some other suspect parts, went to pick the bike up, drive it home...

and guess what... after the motor gets hot: sneeze, cough, backfire, totally dead, stranded on the side of the road. The dealer that worked on it came to pick it up, and it's back in the shop for another week with no word. No issues with the 'new' dealer - they have been awesome (compared to the other guys).

I'll be following up tomorrow... Here's where I am: TPS reset, new spark plug wires/ new plugs, new intake gasket, and no go.

I'm still guessing electrical problem... Any ideas now?

I had what sounds like a similar problem with my 07. Turned out a valve was sticking.

Your intake valve may be loaded down with gunk from a leaking intake valve guide seal. It solidifies on the back of the valve and pieces fall and get lodged onto the valve seat, resulting in the combustion working it's way into the intake. Take a peek into the intake port, beneath your throttle plate and forward into the front cylinder.

For me it was a combination of poorly designed (hat) valve guide seals and my constant decell braking which raised the vacuum level high enough to suck the oil past the intake valve seal.

We had a young lady in the shop a few weeks ago, it was a bad engine temp sensor. It WILL NOT throw a code because the sensor is "there", but it was stuck on one (wrong) temperature value instead of giving a proper read to the computer. Suggest checking that sensor cold, then re-checking it while hot.

They contacted me today to let me know they replaced the brain, rode it for 200+ miles in the heat of the day, and seems to be riding fine. Who knew... new brain!

I'll post again tomorrow after I pick the old girl up.

Great news.

Hope it runs as well for you as it did for them.

I had an off idle sputter I thought might be intake seals, so I ordered some from kirk based on another badwebbers recommendation.

On dissassembley today I found the rubber cap on the vacuum port cracked and both seals were leaking pretty bad. The dennis kirk seals are way larger and tighter than the stockers. They are blue in color instead of black and much harder. 3 out of 4 bolts are in and I'm taking a break.

Fingers ain't what they used to be.

Back to work.

I'm in love again. Call me fickle.

Everything is running amazingly. I rode in the heat yesterday (~100f), and couldn't even get it to ping.

I think I found a tech who knows what the hell he is doing. He spent about half an hour going over everything he did, what to watch out for, etc. Talk about customer service - I'm sold on this shop. He said my bike gave him a run for his money, though.

I can't wait to get back into town next weekend to I can take it on a long, early AM ride. I hate traveling for work when I could be riding...

My S3T ran like crap when I bought it. After much dyno time and diagnosis, the cure was a new ECM. Apparently they sometimes just go bad. I'm glad they figured it out for you.
