Got to take my new uly out for its first a bombing run over the weekend.

Long story short:

Blasted thru parsons branch, went completely air borne a few times, countless creek crossings, sliding all over the place. Eating holes and ditches like a fat kid eats cake. Came to the end (FYI: parsons branch ends right in the middle of US 129 aka the dragon) covered in mud/water. Dusted off the tires then dropped a knee and laid down a shower of sparks all the way to the gas station.

Thank you Mr. Buell.

Your ass was riding way too fast on the dirt!

But I had you in my sites on the pavement! : )

Fast but not the fastest.

By the time we got to the dirt in Cherokee, Fatty was faster than me and he was on PRCT's with loaded side cases.

It was fun in a "God help me make it to the end of this road without falling off the side of this mountain and dropping my bike 1000ft and having to be carried out on pack mule should I be lucky enough to survive" sort of way. LOL! : )

That is the kind of fun we live for.

I didn't know you guys were gonna be in town. Glad you got your ride on!

None of us knew we were going to be in town until last Wednesday.

In fact, I invited Barker and Fatty and the ride organizer had a mild hissy until he realized that they can indeed ride.

LOL...welcome to the dirty side Chad. I figured it would happen sometime. the Uly may not be the best choice for dirt, but it is still a good time.

I'll go along with the crowd, but you can bet I won't be seeking any dirt.

Why plod along at 15mph when I can haul a$$ down a sweet twisty?

In my opinion, riding dirt on a big bike is OK, but not as much fun as riding mad twisties. It's like riding the interstate. Unless it's a means to get to a good road, it seems like such a waste.

Heck, I can find a rutted out gravel road near my house if I want to try to tear up a perfectly good bike. : )

Now, if we'd have camped back in the woods, or stopped for some pictures and sightseeing, that would have been fine. But that didn't happen. It was just me riding along praying that I didn't drop the bike.

Dang- I wish I had known you guys were at the Gap. I was about 100 miles east of you in the mountains:

Here's a pic I took after riding 30 miles up the side of the mountain on some Class 5 single track:

Uly

Not really, it's just a gravel parking area off Highway 215 just south of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I saw one Buell all day long, a CityX just north of Caesar's Head State Park on highway 276.

I rode about 400 miles Saturday to get to the twisties, ride for a couple of hours and head back home. I ended up crashing for the night in Greenwood, SC (100 miles from home). It sucks living so far from good twisties.

BTW- my daughter graduated from MTSU earlier this month (BS RIM) and is moving to the big city of Nashville in a couple of weeks. I figure if she sees a Buell around town it's bound to be one of you three so I'll be sure she says "hi" to you.

Hugh-I just finished a four day trip from Eastern Shore of Md. to New River Gorge w.Va and back. Had my Garmin 376 on all the way so I have the track. How do I do what you did with your track above. I have also seen where a track has been overlaid upon a sat. photo, which I would also like to be able to do. Any ideas where I can get the instructions to do such fun things?

Paul- I don't know. I just laid out that route using Google Maps- maybe there's some way to export that to your GPS? This was an easy route (actually just 3 highways) but I REALLY need to get a GPS for scouting backroads.

I was up there several weeks ago with some guys from Buellforums.com.

I am definitely looking forward to riding out from Nashville to the gap again soon.
